Is that saying 18 inches of snow?
BayAg_14

That is correct. GFS 300 hours out is absolutely useless, but it is fun to look at.

Back in the 90s, we had 12 inches of Snow once.

The Valentine's Day timing checks out…

From Google:

Yes, Houston received nearly 2 feet of snow during a historic, record-breaking event on February 1415, 1895. The storm dropped a maximum of 20 inches officially in the city, though some reports indicated up to 2 feet in the immediate area, remaining the largest snowfall in Houston's recorded history.

Key facts about the 1895 Valentine's Day Storm:
Total Amount: Official measurements recorded 20 inches of snow.
Coverage: The massive system dumped over a foot of snow across much of Southeast Texas and Louisiana.

Regional Impact: Nearby areas saw even higher totals, including 28 inches in Beaumont, Texas.

Conditions: Following the heavy snowfall, temperatures dropped below 20F.

No other storm in Houston's recorded history has approached this total, with the next closest events being significantly smaller.

The 2021 ice storm that wiped out the Texas grid was also around Valentine's Day.

Quote:

Most of next week looks warmer, with highs in the 70s and lows around 60 degrees. We'll probably see a few more clouds and some scattered shower chances, but nothing crazy. Some sort of a front may try to push through ahead of next weekend, but at this point it doesn't look particularly cold. If you're wondering how conditions are looking for the "snow bomb" reported by some social mediarologists on or around February 14, here's the temperature outlook for that period.

That's right, we can expect above normal temperatures.

72 and very rainy Saturday, so if temps had been 50 degrees colder that snow bomb would've panned out.

At least they got the precip part right.

That's where I do sympathize with the spacecity guys.

They said it was ridiculous two weeks ago and called out the "social mediarologists" for hyping something that wasn't ever going to happen. They even said it would be unseasonably warm, not cold.

But then all people remember is "the weather forecasters were 50 degrees off, they are always wrong lol!"

This is one of few industries where I am actually rooting for AI robots to take over. That and sports officiating, especially in SEC football.

Who got the weather wrong? Was a single meteorologist confirming a crazy snow storm?

Or are posters unable to distinguish a single model that trolls were posting on twitter from actual forecasts?
