Ed Young, Sr., is worth $65 million, yet somehow, it wasn't enough.

I doubt there is any reliable data that has an accurate net worth for him or anyone in his category.

Google:

Homer Edwin Young Net Worth

Homer Edwin's net worth is estimated to be $65 million as of 2020. This includes his assets, money and income. His primary source of income is his career as an Evangelist. Through his various sources of income, Young has been able to accumulate a good fortune but prefers to lead a modest lifestyle. He no doubt lives a comfortable life, with the church he serves having an annual budget of over $50 million dollars.

His house alone is like $11 million.

His pastor son makes $1.25 million. IDK what the other son makes.

I'm sure they're eyeball deep in the fake book racket, just like David Jeremiah was...and so many other...politicians.

That is a good question. I have been praying about this & seeking God' wisdom and discernment on this situation.

2nd Baptist is not perfect (no church is perfect because the church body is made up of people & people are sinners) but I think 2nd has done a good job of following the Great Commission in Matt 28:19-20 to go out into the world and bring people to Christ.
I do not attend the Woodway campus, so my experience is probably different than others.

I could see the Jeremiah Group being concerned parishioners worried about the accountability being stripped away and power being concentrated and the problems that can cause.
I could also see this group being just a bunch of busy body church folks who do not like change and perhaps the influence they might have had under Ed Young Sr is no longer there.

I can see where the Jeremiah Group felt that this lawsuit was their only option to save the church because they were ignored by the Sr. Pastor. I could also see the church's view of "we had vote, you don't like the results, we have heard your complaints, but we are not changing what was voted on." If the church to borrow a phrase "bent the knee" whenever any member complained about electric guitars in church or what song gets sung they would never get any worship going.

I can see the Jeremiah group thinking the way the changes to the by-laws went down were shady (busy memorial Day weekend/low church attendance, less than 30 days notice, not furnishing copies of the bylaws and new proposals).
I could see the church thinking we got 90k members, but really 10k-20k active members. Woke ideology is a cancer and all it would take is for a small group of bad faith actors to form a coalition and hijack the church. We have a duty to protect God's church.

I searched through other local Baptist churches and found mixed results when it came to them having their bylaws available and their budget available.
For example, Houston First Baptist had their bylaws on their website easy to access but not their budget. Kingwood First Baptist had their budget, but not their bylaws.
So idk if 2nd is being questionable with respect to the access to bylaws & budget.

I liked Ed Young Sr. From my limited knowledge he lived in nice home (but had bought it a long time ago) and he would go to Hawaii in the summer. The place he stayed at in Hawaii was owned by a church member and would allow Ed Young Sr to vacation there. Nothing pointed to a crazy rich, extravagant lifestyle. I cannot say the same thing about his son in Grapevine Ed Young Jr. Based on the reports of multimillion dollar homes, private jets, poor management of church assets, and associating/employing the same lawyer for Kenneth Copeland I would not want that guy leading my church.
I do not know if Ben Young is like his father, or like his brother. If the Jeremiah Group is correct it looks like he is more like his brother.

I am praying for everyone involved, and that God's will be done. So to answer your question if I am going to continue going there, for now I am but I am going to pray and seek the truth.

He lives in a 13,000 ft2 home on an acre lot in one of the wealthiest and most expensive areas in Houston. He bought the lot and built the house 15 years ago. It's worth $7MM+. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Tonight as BSF was our last week with 3 graduating seniors. We've spent the year together studying Revelation. I reminded them, as I remembered from reading Bill Hull, I believe, that we can do any number of great things for God without God's help. We can raise money, donate to charities, memorize Bible verses, set up great programs, all with our own strength and talents. Yet one day Jesus will return, and every work will be judged. And it will be those things that we could NOT do with our own strength, intellect, or effort- those things that could ONLY be done by God, that will have eternal value. When you look at your own life, and the life of a church, remember this, and celebrate the moments where you see this happening.

It's just shameful what passes for journalism today. The entire internet is broken. I don't think any of these writers have read any books, taken any classes on how to write a lead, had any of their own work objectively edited or reviewed, or even asked themselves simple questions such as, "what would I want to learn from reading this?"

You piqued my curiosity on this, so I went looking.

The Pope of Houston, Joel Osteen lives off Del Monte Dr. in the River Oaks area. 17,309 living area, 13 total rooms, 6 bedrooms, 6 full baths, 2 half baths, 5 fireplaces, elevator, pool, heated spa, fountain, utility shed.

The 2025 Appraised Value = $15,020,195 & HAR has the market value = $13,654,723.

Looking at Ed Young Sr he lives off Voss Rd in the Memorial area. 12,696 living area, 14 total rooms, 6 bedrooms, 7 full baths, 3 half baths, 4 rec room, 2 fireplaces, pool, heated spa, custom outdoor kitchen.

The 2025 appraised value = $6,601,050 & HAR has the market value = $6,913,248.

There is another address associated with Ed Young Sr. It's Everwood Ln, which is the street behind Voss.
9,248 living area, 13 total rooms, 6 bedrooms, 6 full baths, 2 half baths, 3 fireplaces, elevator, pond.

The 2025 Appraised Value = $4,930,750& HAR has the market value = $5,777,629

If you look at both property associated with Ed Young Sr you get a total 2025 Appraised value of $11,531,800 & a combined HAR value of $12,690,877. That puts Ed Young Sr within a few hundred thousand behind Joel.

It is also assumed that both of these men made a lot of wealth from book deals. Now I know that there can be some corruption in books deals, in my opinion, I think it is difficult to "throw stones" at a pastor's wealth when they author a book that is sold globally and hit the NYT bestseller list.

I'm just an ignorant common man.....

But the stones I throw aren't just about how they amassed their wealth. It's also in the flaunting. Maybe do more to help your church or the needy vs. trying to live a life in keeping up with the richest Houstonians....

Again, maybe I'm just ignorant and these pastors truly need 13,000 sq ft houses in Memorial or 17,000 sq ft houses in River Oaks.

That is my understanding as well, at least when it comes to Joel Osteen. The word I've heard is he & the wife don't take a salary from Lakewood, and they don't receive any money from books sold through their church library.

I have no idea about if Ed Young Sr. made any money when about 4 years ago all 6 campuses used the "Chronological Bible" that is listed under the "Winning Walk" books. The same Winning Walk/IP property that the Jeremiah Group is alleging Ben Young/2nd just transferred ownership over to Ed Young Sr.

Hmmm I like that thinking. Something along the lines of don't store up treasure here on earth, but in heaven. That be a good indication of your heart. Something like in Matt 6:19-21.

On May 26th, 2024, Dr. H. Edwin Young stepped away from his position as Senior Pastor and appointed his son Dr. Benjamin "Ben" Young (hereafter, Pastor Ben) as the new head pastor. Dr. Ed Young told the congregation that he "was not stepping down, he was stepping up" (i.e., he was not leaving the church's covering).

The following day, Pastor Ben told his own father Dr. Young to clean out his office, that he was going to remodel it. He was also told that his ministry would no longer be needed, according to members of the Jeremiah Counsel Corporation.
Ben is cold blooded.
