Red flag for me is when Arthur Anderson execs and Ken Lay attended church and were championed at 2nd Baptiidome.

That is not a knock on church attendees but I believe Ed Young Sr called it out in 1 sermon. Something from the Old Testament about "gleaning land."

Remember when Ed Young Jr did a sermon series about making sure you had sex for 30 days straight? I do

I agree that is one of the craziest parts of the saga.

For contrast, Pastor Greg at First lives in a modest house. Sure, its a modest house in a nice neighborhood but nowhere near $11M.

He bought it at a reasonable price too

Wasn't it was 7 straight days? Either way. Woo.

For reference, my uncle is a southern Baptist minister in Palatka, FL in one of those old school tent revival type swamp churches. Lives in a cheap house in a cheap neighborhood owned by the church, and drives a donated Hyundai or something. His church isn't big and isn't in an affluent area. His living situation reflects his constituency. I don't think he is any more holy than a pastor of a church with $1B in assets living amongst his constituency in the same neighborhood. Church is a business whether we like it or not. Or you could go the opposite route and make pastors live like catholic priests in on campus rectories with little to no personal effects, but we've all seen how that has worked.

btw, when sharing insta links, delete all the text after "/?"

For your link, it would be after "/?gsh..." If not, we can see your name or whomever you took that from.

The purge has begun. They are ruining what was until recently a great church and I am not a member.

I'd guess:
1. The water was boiled slowly and they are stubborn.
2. They were there to be entertained. And they are entertained.
3. Their friends / communities are there.

I'll grant you the second two are possible, but I don't think this is a slow boil situation.

Having briefly attended 2nd a decade ago and playing softball there for longer, the regular attendees struck me as mostly true believers, not just seeking entertainment. Leaving a community you have long been with is difficult, but everyone leaving together to go somewhere else would not be nearly as hard.

On a related note, it seems like the HFBC parking lot has been more crowded the past few Sundays.

Yes, the 11 am service has been much more crowded since about Easter.

What a mess. My time there in the 90s was a true blessing. This is not that church.

We are seeing lots of movement from SB to HFBC and Kingsland out by us. Ive heard that the West campus for SB is really struggling with people leaving. I think the only solution is for Ben to step down but he won't. It speaks volumes that he had to be placed and not selected by the elders/deacons. Most churches have a search that the church body votes on.

Man, they went after choir members. Crazy power move. Prayers for all involved. Hope someone remembers it's about the Lord.

Not cold blooded. I am sure t is all a set up though / strategy / formality. They had to do all of this to get Ben in as Head Pastor. It was obvious a long time ago that Ben was not his dad and underwhelming. He would not have been voted in by the board.

I am a member and go to the 1463 campus. I love the church and my Bible Study classes. No church is perfect and this deal has unsettled some of my friends who are directors/deacons. Many of the senior pastors grew up in the church with Ben and seem to be supporting him through this.

Ed Young was piped into worship on Sunday and (I paraphrase) said hold the course and everything was done right.

At present, I don't plan to change my attendance or giving. However, I am not burying my head in the sand that something is going on and it deserves attention.

Not an opinion either way, but the Jeremiah Counsel rebutted his comments within minutes of that video going live.

The senior pastors / staff have to show support for Ben if they want to keep their job. Look what they are doing to outspoken choir members etc. If you think this was all on the up and up because your senior pastors support what has transpired or Ben, then that is your choice. I feel sad about my pastor's underhanded behavior. It is not honest.

Ben Young & crew filed a Notice of Removal to the new Business Court 11th Division. They are not wasting any time spending their parishioners' money on attorney fees- they have retained Liskow & Lewis here in Houston, Bill Jones out of Austin, and famed Trump attorney Jay Sekulow out of DC.

I am not sure how best to share.

That's pretty much it. They want the case moved to the new business courts since the claims asserted by the Jeremiah Counsel have to do with biz org violations, bylaws, charter, voting rights, etc.

The main takeaway for me is that Ben Young is sparing no expense on the defense team. My assumption is that by bringing on the con law big hitter is they plan to focus their defense on the Ecclesiastical Abstention Doctrine/1st Amendment grounds, i.e.- the Courts would be invading church's 1A rights of worship and self-governance by wading into this fight. I expect a plea to the jurisdiction in the not too distant future.

Seems like a glaring issue with regard to standing as well. Gotta think that is in the offing at some point.
