The Slippery Minnow isn't bad. It's more for the experience. It's floating on the water on lake Waco. It's a nice set up. It's actually where we are having our monthly Howdy Hours this summer.

I heard of Crickets. Sounds like a good selection, but I've also heard that they don't keep their draught lines clean (which leads to nasty beer). I was just holding out hope that there was some place where the focus wasn't necessarily the beer, but still offered something a bit different... something from one of the newer Texas breweries (like Rahr or Live Oak or 512). I guess this is just one more thing (like Asian food) in which Waco disappoints.

Some great places mentioned here by others.

BBQ - Tony Demaria's is my favorite, but it is at 1000 Elm and only serves lunch. Like Jasper's on Clifton, I'm not sure you would want to try and get there in the evenings.

Pizza - Papa Rollo's is our favorite by far. I go to Double Dave's for his buffet and to support Dave.

Tex-Mex - The family usually wants Chuys but we also get tortillas and tamales from Jesse's at 12th and Webster.

Burgers - Kitok's and Double R are the usuals.

Italian - Good luck with that

Upscale Steak - We like Diamondbacks and I've heard good things about 135 Prime but haven't tried it personally.

Whatever happened to siete mares? I know I misspelled it.

135 prime is ok, the seafood is good and have good drinks but its costly.

Saw a couple of posts about Cricket's. It's good for beer but I've never eaten there.

Funny story - the last time I went in there, I walked in and some Baylor punks said stuff to me about my California long hair. The funny thing is that I was 5 feet past them before I realized they were talking about me (after having my hair "Corps of Cadets short" for 15 years, I didn't immediately realize that it was me who was the long-haired hippie). As soon as it clicked with me and I turned around, the little Baylor guys backed down and made themselves scarce. Turkeys. If you're going to talk S about somebody, at least be prepared to back it up. This big blond Puerto Rican Texas Aggie was ready to out-Texan them but, they backed down. So, I got to enjoy my beer without further interruption from Bobby Baylor.

Waco just hasn't been the same since Panchos is gone

Any ideas on where to go for the 4th? Not sure if my family is cooking out yet or not and I won't be getting a grill till I move down completely later in July.

4th in Waco...the lake. usually have fireworks as well.

The fireworks are downtown over the suspension bridge.

nothing says Happy 4th more than a rediculously hot night, smellarse waco trash, a "mini" traffic jam, and a sorryarse display of fireworks like the spectical downtown.

Weatherdudes are saying we may get a freak series of cold fronts next week. Hopefully the forecasts pan out and we have a pleasant 4th!

If the Waco fireworks suck, go to Temple. Not bad, really...

Always nice fireworks at Lake Whitney

Happy that I don't have to bundle up to go watch the fireworks this year like what was the norm in Seattle.

honestly, if you go downtown Waco, watch your stuff, and get out with the crowd.

Went out to Los Lonely Boys a couple of years back, met up with some old high school friends. Afterward, we sat around to let the crowd thin out. They went their way, I went mine, walking with my Boxer. Some low life idiot decided to follow me, that is until he came up to the truck window, and had 100# of Boxer ready to tear him a new one

I only said to the idiot, "Do you really want a part of this?"

Downtown Waco fireworks were awesome I hear. The lake fireworks were great.

Anyone still frequent Harold Waite's pancake house? Used to eat there every now and then...late 80's early 90's but has heard it has gone down.

Had a gut pak (small) for a school get together and it was yummy. Will get again but have to remember their hours.

Burger at kitok's was great...oriental fries are a good concept. Want to try something else next time I go.

Dave's burger barn wasn't bad. Little expensive. May try the zipper ripper challenge one of these days.

Any word on WINGS n More?

Original owner (Dennard) said he was franchising out a bunch of new Wings N More Express restaurants in new locations, including Temple and Waco. The restaurants would be operated by the company that runs McAlisters and some other ventures

That was almost a year ago. Haven't heard anything since then

I don't know, but Twin Peaks is a go though apparently

My hometown just got one in December. I'll never go because of the hellfire and condemnation it would bring but more power to a growing economy i guess.

Harker Heights would definitely have the right type of talent.

This is making me think more and more about that future move to Lake Belton...

Doesn't HH have a hooters and tilted kilt already?

Do those do well? Seems like one of those places is just like the others.

I don't really go to those places unless a customer picks it when i take them to lunch.
