Hmmmm....I wonder if this just might have something to do with why the lady was fired this morning. My guess is yes and that she wouldn't go along with what the worthless Waco mayor & ISD wanted.

You would think they would at least try to make it was obvious.

And all of this just after the UIL green lighted smaller schools to continue with football & volleyball. This is just beyond ridiculous and out of control. Things are so much different in the outlying rural areas than in the city of Waco. Can't describe how frustrating all of this BS is that's going on in our country right now.

This wipes out sports in McLennan County until Sept 8. I fired off a letter to the County Judge's office and to the lady at the health department....I don't know if it'll help, but it made me feel a little better.

Mind sharing those addresses as I will as well, and have others do the same.

The City of Waco runs the Health Dept. I had some conversations with some folks last night. Put the heat on Deaver.

Yep, very true. Per my wife who works in Temple & deals with lots of folks in Bell county, Bell county has a true independently run health district, whereas big bad Deaver & Waco run the McLennan county one. Something just seems very wrong about that. We posted the emails on social media so hopefully they are hearing about it. Thanks for the info.

The City of Waco's Pravda, KWTX, put out how it would affect local schools (not at all) citing Midway and Waco High....who of course it won't affect because they are 5A/6A.

I think in light of the news that broke yesterday afternoon, it's pretty clear my information was quite wrong.

Coaches are meeting with County Commissioners today, Superintendents on Friday. We will see how that goes. Our commissioners' court has pretty much acted in lock step with what Waco has wanted the past few years....very few independent voices.

The czar employed by the City of Waco who overlords the county will speak today

According to one of my sources, Judge Felton didn't even know who this guy was. He acted surprised about the whole thing.

That's about par for the course. He doesn't care about anything unless is affects him.

But at least they granted an exception for 1A-4A schools to align with the current UIL rules. McLennan didn't, so some of our schools will be at a 4 week disadvantage. Deaver & his clowns need to amend their initial ruling and allow the same exception.

Yes....it's my understanding that Bell County is allowing sports for 1A-4A schools.

Quote:

  • 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A high schools may conduct extracurricular activities, including band practices and volleyball, football, and cross country practices, scrimmages, games, and meets according to the latest UIL guidelines and restrictions regarding gatherings mandated by Governor Abbott.
  • Students already participating in UIL strength conditioning programs can continue to participate as long as the schools follow UIL guidelines.

Makes the Waco people look like buffoons....AGAIN.

Thank goodness. My daughter's boyfriend goes to Troy. Their first football game is against Salado at Mclane stadium South. He's looking forward to it.

If I had the money, I'd have my daughter moved to CTCS or Holy Trinity for her senior year. I had always viewed private education as a waste of money because our local public schools are good but f an A school boards have too much control.

??? This is absolutely not the school boards. The school boards had ZERO intention of delaying/remote starting until the health department called in the superintendents yesterday and told them how it is.

I realize that in this instance. Overall, like all these years, they've had too much sway. If it was up to BISD super and board, I don't think they would've closed but since being forced to close they haven't figured out the best way to go when opening.

They were forced to close at 430pm today. Give them a second.

We've been working all summer on all the different scenarios--that work isn't wasted. We will resume meeting in person at some point and need those plans. We just need to pivot temporarily. The work that this afternoon's pivot involves is inestimable for our small private school that has parents used to homeschooling. The factors involved for school districts with thousands of students with varying access to technology and stay at home parents brings tears to my eyes. Not to mention Belton with a new school.

And that chaps my you know what. That new high school is yuge. They could open it to more than just the planned 9th and 10th graders from MPR, moffat and west temple. That would go so far in social distancing. But they won't. I realize that's only a high school solution but BHS is supposedly the most crowded campus in the district.
