Yep. I struggle with getting my better half to understand why I want my vehicles in the backyard rather than out on the street in front of the house.
And for my 7-Series BMW, the only time it leaves the garage is when I'm driving it. I'd prefer that my neighbors and random passersby don't even know that it exists.
For our OP, that's wild that you got the whole thing on camera. Sorry your truck got boosted.
No offense, but no thief cares or even your neighbors or gives a second look at a decade old 7 series - even a V12 unless the thing is straight piped. It looks like every other old 7 series on the road worth basically scrap value. I think you're stressing over nothing there.
Really sucks OP. Makes a Ravelco very appealing for the replacement. I keep my smart keys in a wall mounted RFID key vault. You can also find dresser type versions. These block the signals from your smart keys making cloning harder. This problem is only going to get worse as "smart" key duplicators come down more in price. Seems like even manufacturer lock downs, like FCA with their scan tool security subscription, don' even work to slow down the thefts.
I'm not losing any sleep over it but, it's the triple combo of being the most expensive/excessive looking car on my street/in my neighborhood, plus the number of random low life passersby from the beach and the local alcoholic bars, plus the fact that there is lots of vehicle crime in Galveston. Why tempt morons if you don't need to?
By no means am I saying that my BMW is the greatest car ever but, if it was really no big deal, my car insurance wouldn't have doubled when I bought it. Of course that might just be part of the scam of auto insurance in general.
