NaturalStateReb,
Thinking about coming in Saturday morning via US-78 to MS-7 and then returning after the game via I-55. Plan to leave Memphis mid to late morning and arrive in Oxford by lunch. Would you recommend taking the US-78 route at that time? Is the scenery good along that route?

What's the best place to park when arriving in town around lunch time?

Thanks for your help! You have been a great asset on this thread. Much appreciated!

I would urge you to get as early a start as you can, but that's a good route to take. US78 goes freeway grade four-lane at the Mississippi state line, but you'll have to contend with a few red lights on the Tennessee side where US78 doubles as Lamar Aveune.

On the parking, it depends on whether you're planning to eat in town and how long that takes. If you decide to eat in the Square area and don't mind the ~1 mile walk to the Grove, parking at the Square and walking might be your best option, especially if you get there a bit late. With a 6PM kickoff, I'd still recommend giving the Rebel Drive area at least a try if you're on campus before 1. If you flame out parking anywhere on campus, then I'd suggest parking at the Oxford Mall, especially if you're looking to make a getaway on Highway 6/I-55. Follow the shortcut directions in reverse at the top of this thread to get out of town.

If you're coming into Oxford using US78/Highway 7, take the Highway 30/Molly Barr Rd. exit. When you reach the intersection of Lamar Ave and Molly Barr, stay on Molly Barr if you're going to the Grove (a left on Lamar will take you straight to the Square). Molly Barr will end at Jackson Avenue. Turn right onto Jackson. Take a left at the 2nd light--that's Rebel Drive.

There's a slim chance that you might find a spot in the lots just off to the left before you reach Sorority Row (1st light) in the lots off Faculty Row. Considering the size of the crowd, I wouldn't hold out much hope, but it might be worth a look.

Another tailgating hint: the electical outlets in the Grove are turned off on gameday, but the ones on the sides of buildings are usually on. If electricity is critical and being directly in the Grove isn't, this might be an attractive option.

For those interested, your best bests are near Farley Hall just to the north of the Grove, or any of the buildings around the Circle which is adjacent to and just west of the Grove.

The Circle is essentially Grove West. That's where you'll find the Lyceum (the Greek Revival admin building that's on the university's seal) and the Rebel statue:

We went to a national conference there in 1994. No football, but we had a great time. I left thinking that I could have gone there. Only other school I ever thought that about. And I even went to grad school in the B1G, so I seen a LOT of campuses. HAVE A GREAT TIME and GIG'EM AGGIES!

Yes, but no alcohol. They will inspect bags on the way in, so expect them to pour anything out at the gate. If you're gonig to bring something in, you'll have to use a bit more trickeration.

Good morning from Oxford. I hope all the Aggies get to make this trip, you'll have fun. One pay to park lot on West Jackson opens at noon Saturday ran by Boy Scouts. Stay on West Jackson from highway 6. Where the road goes from 4 lane to 2 lane, you will see an old railroad bridge converted to a walking path bridge. Look to your left.

$20 to park and it all goes to the Troop and it's Scouts. 1/4 mile walk to the Grove and stadium.

Hope y'all have a blast, and welcome to Oxford and the SEC.

Thanks to naturalstae Reb and the Reb that posted just before this on parking. Tips have been great. Having a ball except Horseshoe casino is kicking my ass. Great dinner at Binions Steakhouse. Almost all maroon customers.
