The crying all makes sense. The Alabama win certainly helped us, but we have to acknowledge there is NIL deal-making happening.
Very strange to go 8-4 yet still have the top rated class of all time without some level of NIL-dealmaking, which is all fair game now.

What else does a 5 star football player need?
We have it all. Sorry If it hurts your little feelings that A&M has barged into the top 5 of college football! You are just going to have to get used to it!
The SEC had two top teams (you know the two) in college football already and you will now have to put A&M up there in the mix!

The sips spent $4,000,000+ on their new QB.
I know we are running a great NIL program but I doubt we paid any of our recruits $4M to play at A&M. People still want to play for us and Jimbo with or without the money.
I was talking to some Dirt Burglars last month about their coaching search. I was worried that they would get Kiffin. A couple of them seemed interested but most of them thought they could do much better. And, perhaps for OU, Venables will be better than Kiffin, but I agree that Kiffin would probably do a great job at tu and likely cause us a lot of pain. I think that he's learned from his previous mistakes though, at ole miss they will love him forever if he's sniffing the top 25 every year and is about .500 in down years, and they'll pay him a top 10 yearly salary to do it.aggiehawg said:
Should not have fired Mack, nor Dodds nor Powers in the way they did. And at the time they did.
Now, Dodds had pissed off most everybody by that point and had little Big Cigar support. Powers was on thin ice.
Firing Mack Brown became the litmus test for both. Still had friends who were in the Big Cigar category back then that I could talk with about what was happening on the 40 acres. The politics behind their calculus.
Horribly misled. Strong was a disaster. Herman was a disaster. Sark is a disaster.
But the one coach I fear going to the sips right now, ain't Saban, ain't Fisher, it is Kiffin.
Rumor mill this morning is that UCLA will fire Kelly on the 15th when his buy-out decreases and hire Kiffin. The big catch at ole miss is that (by state law) they can not offer more than a 4 year contract. So, $7.5m a year is a lot, but when somebody offers him one of the insane salaries that unproven guys like Mel Tucker or good but not great coaches like Riley and Kelly got, say 10 yrs $100m, he will bolt.
Yep. It's the reason that USC paid so much for Riley, they've been down for 15 years and decided to spend their resources on a big name coach. We already had the big name coach, so we're spending it on the players. This wheel will turn, and tu/bama/osu/clemson/ou/etc etc will get desperate in the future and spend even more, but for now we have greater resources resources than most and certainly a strong sense of urgency to win now.Old Sarge said:I was against NIL, as was most everyone I know that liked the old school Amateurism. I was against NIL, but everyone knew that the two schools with endowments equal to Ivy League schools but are obsessed with football are going to win out.
I said a couple years ago when NIL was really starting to gain steam, that if A&M could put together the best system at it, with our virtually unlimited resources that recruiting could put us in a better situation than anyone in college football. You mix our $$$ with 50 years of BAS and high motivation to put ourselves on top, and this is what you get.
Texas A&M, knowing that NIL was imminent, was like Jack Reacher's character in the first Reacher movie, surrounded by the blue bloods and saying "Just remember, you wanted this..."
You nailed it!Artimus Gordon said:

Mel Tucker or Brian Kelly aren't getting $100m from an NFL team though. College coaches without nfl head coaching experience making the jump to NFL head coach have a spotty record at best. Jimmy Johnson was amazing. Kingsbury is doing a good job so far after 2 years. But Saban fell flat, Meyer flamed out after 10 games, Rhule isn't impressing these days, etc etc etc...it's mostly a dumpster fire when these allegedly elite coaches can't out out-talent 90% of their games and have to actually out-coach their opponents.aggiehawg said:Rumor mill this morning is that UCLA will fire Kelly on the 15th when his buy-out decreases and hire Kiffin. I can see Kiffin being interested in the UCLA job. Understand that Kiffin has been offered a new contract at Ole Miss but not sure it has been signed and approved by the Board yet.
Have to wonder if the NFL is going to start a second wave of college coaching carousels, too.
It's funny how coaches like Dabo and Lane got mad @DeionSanders for signing a 5 star recruit but quiet about Texas A&M getting the #1 recruiting class when they ain't won a chip in God knows when but because they're a pwi it's crickets

OSU better get up to speed, and start winning in this new arena.
So like Texas who bought the best offensive line in college football Texas A&m bought the best recruiting class in the country..... If this were Miami they'd find a way to screw the school over, the SEC is immune to any consequences or repercussions

But A&M and Jimbo admitted to NCAA infractions (i.e., cheating) in 2020. Now a 4-4 conference record gets a top 5 class all time? 🤔 https://t.co/5IES7fuYCE.

"A&M has a coach who won a championship, resources and facilities out the wazoo, and won games they shouldn't have with a backup quarterback. The only explanation for a historic recruiting class is cheating!"

Aight bud maybe time to log off for the day 😉
I watched almost every A&M game. You’re not a quarterback away from a national championship. You got the recruits because you’re cheating your ass off
— Mark Speaks (@mark04markr) January 2, 2022
True but a&m is a meh program with no relevance. don't understand the glow of that place absent the money. Underachieving program getting a laughably awesome class. Alot of cheating going on.
