I never thought our regular match up with S Car made any sense. Missouri is better in my opinion. I just like that every 4 years we'll play ever team at least once home and away.

I would have preferred Arky over Mizzou, but it seems like they were considering other factors besides historical rivalries. Of course, the sips got all three of their obvious rivals. The sips always get what they want and the rest of the conference compromises.

These aren't the only 3 teams we're playing, and we're not limited to our "division" either. There are 12 "non-permanent" conference opponents and 6 additional conference games. So we should get a home and away with everyone else in a 4 year cycle. Beats anything we've had so far.

Basically anyone getting their panties in a wad over this, needs to just wear panties on their head.

Florida and Tennessee were not historical rivals, they were just the Alabama-LSU of the 1990s.

Florida and Tennessee started playing each other annually only with the creation of divisions in 1992. Between 1955 and 1992 they only played each other 9 times.

When pig and chicken joined 20+ years ago that's when the SEC went to a divisional format and to make the divisions work and to preserve a few key rivalries ( Bama v UT etc ) the 5-1-2* format was born And Pig v Chicken was designated as their annual cross division game

The Ags and Mizzou join the new schedule is 6-1-1 and we get Mizzou as our permanent cross divisional opponent. And A&M is stuck with Mizzou as our season finale and Pig plays LSU in their finale.

This where we go into unsupported soeculation but IMO it makes sense

1) Pig did not like USCe as permanent cross divisional game
2) the season finale was
A&M vs Mizzou ; Pig vs LSU
Which nobody really liked and the networks wanted LSU to have a better Finale
3) people at A&M did not want the tu game coming back so we needed a better season finale
4) Pig wanted more years added to the Jerry world deal.


So in a matter of a few months it was announced that we'd get USCe as our new permanent;
The Jerry World deal was extended by 3 years iirc and the Ags now had LSU as our season finale

When the Big 12 formed it was 5-3 format and the annual Nebraska v OU game ended which was one of many issues NU had

It could be worse, I guess. Really wanted MSU (for "old SEC" feel) or I guess Arky (we have played them quite often in our history). How it could have been worse was MU, OU and tu (big 12 lite).
