Correct Arch Manning isn't young; he turned 21 last April. He should be a senior but he must have been held back from starting grade school on time plus a redshirt year and that is how you get a 21 year old incoming sophomore.

That said, he has incredible athletic talent but he is lacking the mental part of the game. He just doesn't have 'it'.

His age is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that this is his third year in the horn program and the horns basically ran off Ewers to give him the starting job. Considering this, he is pretty far behind where he should be in terms of development. He did play his best game of the year this weekend so maybe the stars align and he has success but it's easy to tell he is never going to live up to the hype bubble the media created. That was probably impossible. I predict he ends up having a career just like Sims the last Horn prodigal son.

Don't forget the prodigal brother, Case McCoy.

There were plenty of skeptics. I know a bunch of guys in NOLA that saw him play a bunch in high school. To a man they said he couldn't throw a deep ball. Struggled to put any zip on it.

His dad said he wished he gone to Virginia. "A better fit"
His grandfather describes him as "a sweet boy"
I am sure he is a fine young man. But he is not a cold blooded leader.

They will announce he has an injury soon. We wll never see him again at sipland.

Manning was a SOLID 3-star, now a mediocre 3 star if you're his mother.

Arch Manning is the Dan Quisenberry of college football. He clearly went to the Uncle Rico football academy.

Same way they missed with Garret Gilbert and Tyrone Swoopes.

Expectations > reality.

Garrett Gilbert was an NFL QB. Didnt work out at the 40 acres, though.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

He looked pretty good against us last year

He barely played. He ran in for a TD, and I don't think he attempted a pass.

Inserted into the game situationally. Three carries, net 14 yards and a TD. No passes. ... yeah, looked pretty good ...

QB is the hardest position to scout. How many 5-star prospects don't perform up to that rating in college, particularly at the school who first signed them? Answer: Most How many first round NFL QB draft picks don't perform up to what was hoped for when drafted? Answer: Most.

Ever heard of Chris Simms? This is a habit for the longhorns - get big name legacy QB and expect a natty to fall in their laps.

Yes, a repeat of tu getting the big name qb and trying to push the better starting qb out of the way because they made promises to get said big name qb. With Chtis, they did push the better qb out of the way.

I was in school when we were playing Applewhite. I think Mack Brown gets a Natty in 2001 if Applewhite was the QB. Simms got the nod in the bonfire game, and I think him juggling that situation costs them Appkewhite's senior year. Watching Arch, I'm not seeing anything special so far.

Mainstream sports media bought into the tu hype machine

Honestly I think it's mostly this. 8 of 247's 28 top ranked players of all time have been QBs. 3 of them went to tu.

VY actually earned the rating. Ewers and Archโ€ฆโ€ฆ.not even in the ballpark

The effing media wants to wish their beloved "blue bloods" (ESPECIALLY sip) into relevance so badly that they'll stretch the narrative to unbelievable lengths. Sip recruits typically get a one star bump, or close to it, the second they commit. Arch could never live up to that hype. He's just not that level. He could eventually be a decent QB and possibly even make the league. But everybody saw the HS tape. Everybody. Some just chose to ignore it

"Sippy", on a whole, is nothing more than a merchandise *****. They want the "big names", because it sells t-shirts, puts butts in seats and eyeballs on TV's.

Caldwell got in for one play and looked better than Arch did all season

This is my concern. I worry that they may finally bring in the backup and things start clicking right before we play them.

If it gets bad enough, I'd bet that they work out a deal behind the scenes to bench him. He'll be shut down for the season due to "injury" to save face. I don't see a scenario where Sark is worried about job security and benches him in the middle of a game like he would any other player that's just not performing.

I'll admit I haven't watched every snap he's taken this year, but his mechanics go to crap at the first sign of pressure. That's on him, because I'm certain they've tried like hell to coach that out of him.

Arch Manning is Garrett Gilbert 2.0 for t.u. w/ the added weight of the Manning last name.

He'd be wise to transfer out to another school to reset and salvage his college career like Gilbert did to SMU.

So, if he survives this year mentally he may not be too bad. He does show flashes of good play, but only flashes.
His line doesn't help him, he doesn't have the ability to help identify blitzes to change blocking pre snap. The game is moving too fast at the SEC level right now.
Hopefully, he figures it out just enough to stay on the field - it will benefit the Ags if he does, because I don't think he becomes good enough to take them beyond Outback Bowl appearances.
This.

And hopefully it keeps Sark around longer too.

He has a monster game this weekend. If the horns can pull it together and get a win everything looks better for them. If they lose they go another week without a P4 or SEC win the fan base is going to get restless. There will be loud calls for the backup.

Someone mentioned the fact that if you rank every CFB QB in Texas where does Manning land? As of today he is probably behind the following:

Tech QB
Aggie QB
TCU QB
Houston QB
SMU QB
North Texas QB
Texas St. QB???

Smartest thing he could do would be to transfer. Ole Miss is probably out as an option. UGA and Bama are too big. Maybe UT? No to Miss St. Maybe LSU, but that may depend on who their new coach is after this year.

Note to future kids: if you are a small school playing against a media hype machine like arch, do NOT be the one that is caught jogging and 5'3". You will be used as joke material years after you have graduated.

This is a fun thread. I can understand the press hyping him; it's $ in their pockets. The strange part is how many offers he got from proven coaches that seem to know how to evaluate talent, it's amazing they were so convinced. Coaches are vulnerable to group think just like every other human, but they are paid to do better.

If he wasn't sip, I would advise that he should nonchalantly return to being the backup. This way he would improve his draft stock again.

His problems are exacerbated by having an OL who haven't worked together much. They lost a good number of OL guys last year. He does have some problems but that doesn't help, at all.
