Arch Manning is the Dan Quisenberry of college football. He clearly went to the Uncle Rico football academy.
Quisenberry was a very good relief pitcher, so no, no he's not.

Caldwell got in for one play and looked better than Arch did all season
This is my concern. I worry that they may finally bring in the backup and things start clicking right before we play them.
If it gets bad enough, I'd bet that they work out a deal behind the scenes to bench him. He'll be shut down for the season due to "injury" to save face. I don't see a scenario where Sark is worried about job security and benches him in the middle of a game like he would any other player that's just not performing.
I'll admit I haven't watched every snap he's taken this year, but his mechanics go to crap at the first sign of pressure. That's on him, because I'm certain they've tried like hell to coach that out of him.

Vince Young played poorly his first year plus, then became a legend. Honestly, we don't know how good Arch will be. The whole issue is that high praise is something you earn, not something you inherit.

Vince Young was Big12 offensive freshman of the year. This is Arch's 3rd season at Texas.

True but not exactly how it went down. I was in Knoxville at the time and during Peyton's playing days. He did turn out to be an excellent QB. But he didn't really beat out Stewart to start. Daddy Archie came to town and had a long private talk with the coaching staff. Rumor has it that he made a sizable donation to the program while he was there and while he exerted a lot of verbal pressure on Fulmer. Magically Peyton started the next game. Could just be a coincidence. But it sounds pretty similar to how Archie stepped in when Peyton was up for the NFL draft and Archie announced that Peyton would not play for certain teams if they drafted him.
Many people are having a bad year, but Arch Manning is having one of the worst.

Yeah, after Ohio State and Georgia, he's looked pretty good. Oh wait, except for Florida.....and Mississippi State.....and Kentucky.

Be real. He absolutely sucked early in the season, but he has looked very good in the latter half of the season. He probably will never live up to the hype he had coming into the season (vitually no one would), but as of now, he deserves to be viewed as a likely top tier QB next year. We weren't great in the game, but we did NOT lose to a bad QB. We lost to a guy who HAS figured things out and was playing well.
Manning deserved all the criticism of his play he got as of when this thread was created. But it was pre-mature to suggest he didn't have talent. It was probably just luck, but CaliforniaAggie510's post early in the thread was spot on. Almost all of the other posts aged very poorly.

Manning had a good game in a meaningless non-CFB bowl game against an average B10 team without its full complement of starters due to opt outs and "injuries" and just fired its HC two weeks ago.
Start up the hype machine again - it'll be another set up to unrealistic expectations only to see them be unmet again.
