Old enough to remember CT's shooting the sip's toy cannon in Austin

BTHO TU

That was funny.

You'd see them gather around and everyone would cheer when their mini-me cannon would make a little 'pop', then we'd score and you'd hear the massive BOOM of our cannon.

The Tyler Rose ran all over us in '77. Remember that brutal North wind? When the Oilers had their annual training camp at Angelo State, they used to eat at my family's steakhouse most every night and Earl routinely had 2 large ribeyes. Tony Fritz, the Austrian kicker, drank draft beer straight from the pitcher, one after another. He spoke German with my grandpa. Those guys were a hoot.

My hatred for tu has dampened over the years, mainly because I've come to realize that everybody else hates them too.

71 years old, Class of 76… at this time 50 years ago we beat tu 20-10 to go 10-0 in my senior year. The next two games were not good so my BAS needs a cure next week!

We looked unbeatable after that tu win but lost to arky, then USC in the Liberty Bowl. Both of those games were frigid. I've never been colder in my life and my testicles have not descended since.

Will be 94 next month. Was a fish in 1948. Our team was outscored in all of the first nine games. The Ags went to Austin for our 10th game and tied the Longhorns 14-14. That kept our season from being a complete disaster. If "next year" had not been a slogan before that, it became a slogan for many years.

We got our diplomas, commissions and diplomas on the same day and many of us were sent to Korea. My good friend and our yell leader Lew Jobe did not survive Korea. Missed seeing the Turkey Day game while in Korea, but did attend muster. Let's finish this regular season undefeated!

I miss the horseshoe and the open south end sometimes.

Even that goofy round bulb scoreboard, and the planes flying banners.

I liked the larger track around the field as well.

But as Eddie Money sang, "I can't go back, I know"

I avoid temptation unless I can’t resist it.

Class of 85'. After losing three years in a row, finally got to see us win in Austin in 84. It was a turning point for the program.

I'm class of 1992. I have some pretty good Texas hate built up.

FTR

1988 win
1989 win
1990 ran out of time
1991 win
1992 win

(I took the five-year path to a degree and graduated in May of 1993.)

I was there on this same path. It was glorious except for that failed 2pt attempt in '90. Went to the well one too many times as I recall but glorious none the less.

Class of 74

Nov 26, 1970 Austin # 1 Texas 52 | Texas A&M 14
Nov 25, 1971 Kyle Field #12 Texas 34 | Texas A&M 14
Nov 23, 1972 Austin #7 Texas 38 | Texas A&M 3
Nov 22, 1973 Kyle Field #11 Texas 42 | Texas A&M 13
Nov 29, 1974 Austin #17 Texas 32 | #8 Texas A&M 3

While I was there it was Gene Stallings for 2 years then a rebuilding team under Emory Bellard. 1st couple of years we were exciting, but didn't win much.

Look at that, we weren't even ranked until Fall of 74. I think in that game we turned it over on the 1st 2 series. tu had the ball at point blank range. We were down 2 scores with maybe 1 minute gone in the game.

Ditto! Our Fish year was the first year that non-family females could attend A&M. 7-1 ratio of men to women that year!

Lordy, I have to say that was funny. Unique perspective for sure. In '85 we were all pure as the wind driven snow.
