People getting upset about this are funny. This is always who Lane Kiffin has been. It's within his rights to negotiate whatever deal he wants. Other parties can tell him no, but he knows he has the upper hand.

There is no way he is not gone IMO. I would be shocked if he stays. It seems like schools should put a rider in the coach's contract that says if you take another job before the current season is finished, you're in violation of your contract.

You're probably right, but some schools should try it and talk about the moral high ground and say, "hey if a coach can't even agree to finish the season they're currently in, we don't want that coach anyway."
I doubt it would ever happen, but Ole Miss's AD or President should give a speech directed specifically at LSU saying, "Remember how this day feels in 3-5 years when you're in our shoes, you're having a great year, and suddenly the job that's bigger than yours opens up and he gets happy feet."
