This is Matt Moscona's Locked-On LSU detail of what happened behind the scenes at LSU to tie up Kiffin. There's gonna be some bad blood between LSU and OM for awhile.

I get the sense that there is really not a way OM could have kept Kiffin. However OM probably could not have handled it worse.

This would be like if Ketchum had a podcast all about how A&M's dysfunction caused Schloss to leave to tu. It's all spin to cover up for disloyal snake, that was always ready to leave at the slightest chance of greener pastures.

I have been watching Moscona for weeks now. He's an LSY guy that only tells the LSU crap side of the story
What he leaves out, listen for that. Because he says LSU never pressured Kiffin and said he could coach Ole Miss through the playoffs until late January until he took over coaching at LSU.

Bulls***! They may have told him that a month ago. And that's a maybe. Just cannot sue LSU. Even if one wins, will never be paid. We of all people, know that. Contracts with LSU mean nothing. LSU can break them at will. LA state lege just won't vote to ever pay.

Kiffen didn't even meet with his own Leadership Council to let them know. They reached out when he didn't show for the meeting. No response. Oxford PD was also called for the meeting.

Kiffen doing Kiffen things.

yeah, this is all a case of "he is who they thought he was".

He's done this before at Tennessee. Part and parcel of hiring a known wild-card of a coach in my opinion.

Why OM didnt tie him up with an incredibly huge buyout to prevent things like this from happening is beyond explanation.

Not sure they had the leverage to make him sign something like that.

Interested to see the details of the LSU contract - we were told by the guvnah that it would be a different kind of contract (I'm holding my breath).

But it matter because Kiffin would bolt for Alabama or the NFL as soon as they call.

These idiots would have absolutely no issue if the coach they wanted came to them in the same way Kiffin left. That's not a defense of Kiffin but a realistic take on fans of virtually ALL schools. They don't care what it takes to get a coach or to win -- ANYTHING is fair; lose a coach or even a game, and all hell breaks loose. In their mind, Kiffin doesn't have the right to leave -- they would have done the same thing if everything was above board.

would they though?

I can't speak for Ole Miss, I would not be OK if we hired a man who left his previous employer this way. And when Elko was hired away from us, I specifically said, this hurts, but I am happy for Elko and his family. Obviously that was a promotion, but I can be happy when good things happy to good people. But I am human and which means i can take satisfaction when bad things happen to bad people.

Lane may have rehabbed his image with Saban, but he is, and always will be, a POS. He may be a great FB coach, but he is a terrible person that I would not want associated with my university.

Think of what you know about life (especially if you're over 40).

Think about who Kiffin is, and how this played out.

Think about LSU and what you know about them.

I think you'll understand how this plays out in the end. We'll have a lot to say about it.

Respectfully disagree. This guy can leave anytime obviously but he's leaving the #6 team on the verge of the playoffs purely for personal gain. That's pretty ****ty by any standard. At some point, character has to matter.

Lane Kiffin coached his team into the playoffs, then coached himself right out of the playoffs.

The only reason Lane Kiffin wanted to coach out the rest of the season with Ole Miss was so that Lane Kiffin could play for a natty, not because of some fake altruistic b.s.

If Kiffin was truly wanting his players to play for a natty, he wouldn't have threatened to poach his staff to LSU before the playoffs.

Some of you are gullible. Lane Kiffin is out for Lane Kiffin, and if you can't see this repeated and very visible characteristic with his past behavior, we can't help you.

Nothing is sacred in Baton Rouge. They ran off the perfect coach for their program two years after finishing the perfect season with the perfect team. It will be glorious when they turn on Kiffin.

Billions of hours of hemming and hawing on the internet and in the media could be freed up for good if we just collectively recognized and labeled ****ty people for what they are, summarily ejected them from public life, and moved on. Instead, we care about things like football wins. Our programming is ****ed, sometimes.

Also, Lane Kiffin is, has been, and will be one of those ****ty people.

Think of all the fan bases in college sports; it is really hard to come up with one more fitting than LSU for this crap.

They hired a complete Ahole of a coach, that even their own fanbase despised, when they hired Brian Kelly.

Fired him mid season breaking their bank and embarrassing (like that is even possible) their entire state.

Follow it up with hiring the biggest D-Bag in college football who leaves his current team in one of the worst, if not THE worst, possible ways you could leave a team.

LSU is ****; Kiffin is ****, I can't wait for their collective bag of **** to be lit on fire and dumped on the NCAA's doorstep.

I am not so sure, especially given the way schlossanass left here. I do still believe loyalty and character are valued among most collegian fan bases.

So, Kiffin didn't follow his heart and listened to an old man that hasn't coached college ball in 15 years. Who knows what Saban said but also a guy who left the college game due to NIL which broke his hold on Bama's dominance now that every school can simply pay players. And he had a shot at OM - he's already in the playoff. There is nothing saying he will get that shot at LSU now that almost every school in the SEC can join in on the arms race that is college football. JFC, Indiana is #2 in the country because of this change. Indiana!

Quote:

In an interview with ESPN's Marty Smith, Kiffin noted "my heart was [at Ole Miss] but I talked to some mentors, Coach [Pete] Carroll, Coach [Nick] Saban. Especially when Coach Carroll said, 'Your dad would tell you to go. Take the shot.'" Kiffin later added: "I talked to God, and he told me it's time to take a new step."

Lane Kiffin is absolutely the enemy. The calendar didn't abandon his team. Kiffin did. The calendar didn't refuse to talk to his players. Kiffin did. The calendar didn't bail mid-season because somebody waved some money in front of its face. Lane Kiffin did.

Stop absolving people of loathsome behavior just because money exists. Lane Kiffin has personal agency. He could've done the right thing despite the temptation to turn traitor in exchange for money. The man was already making $10 MILLION A YEAR, and we are supposed to treat him as some poor victim of a predatory system? Please…

Wild A$$ guess is
the deal on the table from OM had a prohibitive buyout which is why LK wouldn't sign it
Buyout is the only thing in these contracts that The university has leverage on
LK was never retiring in Oxford so he had to leave now again just my WAG

How do you even fix the calendar? Athletes still have to enroll in the university they're going to. You can't just make a convenient free agency period that works. Kids have to be in by January in order to be participate in spring ball. Spring ball is very important to coaches and players alike.

I think the only legitimate option is getting rid of conference championships, playing the first round on the second weekend of December and finishing up the first weekend of January, no bye weeks along the way. Then teams/coaches that go deep into the playoffs are done by the transfer portal date. I don't see any other way to make the schedule work with university enrollment.
