Why does this announcement have to take place same day as early signing day?

I would like to see if we could go down to Houston and get Jarrod Johnson on staff in some capacity. Not sure if he's ready for OC yet, but he seems like he's done decent with the Texans QBs (even if they've been hurt off and on the last couple of seasons)

Strange timing. Seems like they would have waited one day, at least, to make sure the LOI were all in.

Or do recruits have the option of getting out of the coaching staff changes?

I felt like he was going to move on to a HC job sooner than later. But I was hoping we would get 1 more season.

Maybe now he can get back to sticking to the game plan and not trying to air raid. Maybe he was distracted the last few weeks with his interviewing.

Apparently Klein is going to coach through the playoffs

Weis Jr is going to be a coordinator. Klein is going to be a Head Coach - doubtful that he sticks around. He has to assemble a staff and get to work building his program. Also doubtful that we were caught off guard with this, and maybe this explains some of last Friday...

I hope he's more successful than Kingsbury was when he left to HC his alma mater, but I doubt he will be. That's a tough role if you don't have enough industry relationships to build a good staff yet.

Klein strikes me as the kind of guy that is committed and he'll find the right balance. He was so impressive at my kids A&M football camp this summer. If he felt he couldn't do the OC job right, he would have told Elko. The portal process is over. It doesn't really matter if he gets their next week (essentially Xmas break) or in the New Year. Good timing for us actually, versus a few weeks ago.

So only for about 18 more days then?

Not saying that it's due to Jerrod Johnson, but CJ Stroud has regressed since his rookie season. And I don't think Texans' fans are that high on Davis Mills, either.

If there is one school he was never gonna say no to, it was K State. Best of luck to him in the future. Just need him to be focused on the playoffs

This could also confirm that he intends to keep most of the staff at K-State on board and he feels that can keep thing together while he finishes up here...

Congrats to him. He'll probably stay through the playoff run. High character guy and will be the last time he sniffs the playoffs for a long time. Klieman is retiring, not going to another job, so he can hold the fort until Klien is done here.

On the one hand, I say good for Klein, and I appreciate what he contributed to our great season. The results are on the books and it's a tremendous boost for our program.

But OTOH I always wondered how he could be deeply loyal to the school that bagged the Heisman the year it was so close to being his. AIR he was ahead of JFF up to late in the season but then he had one really bad game & then JFF moved ahead of him permanently.

I also fear that some of our offensive magic this season might've been him coaching for his new job. So even if he'd've stayed, that component of the magic wouldn't be there next year.

Put these together and it's plausible that he was mostly phoning it in for us until his dream job opened up, and we really only got "the good stuff" from him when the eyes of the K-State search committee were upon him.

or CJ Stroud came back this level. there was talk before he was drafted how he did really poorly on a strategy/decision making test. then, he had his rookie season and everyone was like see those tests don't mean anything.

then the league had tape on him and he's never been the same player. lots of people say it's because of the poor OL. which that is true, the line is really poor. but, Stroud makes terrible decisions and misses things a QB that's been in the league a few seasons should not.

Next up

Gotta take the shot when you get it at his age. There are windows for these things and this is his.

Best of luck to him, but we have a chance to upgrade big-time to a play-caller who understands our personnel

That's going to be tough for him if we make the national championship game. The portal closes three days before the final.

Why did staff delete their own thread?

zero percent chance he stays through the playoffs. He's going to be the HC not a damn OC. Especially with signing day. I'd expect he's already on a plane as I type this.

Provided he doesn't take any other coaches from our staff…it's hard to imagine that would be the case given the location and resources available at KSU.
