In week 5, Miami beat Florida St. Yet some how. Florida St played Oklahoma for the National Championship game.

How I miss the BCS rankings. It was easier to be mad at a computer than humans.

Yes it sucks for them.
They are more deserving than Tulane and JMU, the system needs to be corrected.

But acting like little babies doesn't help anything.

They would have taken an ACC slot, but I don't think any other bowl is prevented from inviting them if that bowl didn't already have a conference tie-in.

The Seniors will probably opt out to prep for the NFL combine.
The injured guys will get their medical work done earlier to prep for spring ball.
A shell of the team would show up, get beat, and the other team will brag they beat
Notre Dame when they only beat about half the team.

This is the death knell for meaningless bowl games. I think the CFP, if expanded to 16, is the new post-season.

There wont be anymore Idaho Potato Bowls going forward if only one team wants to be there.

The Committee was playing games. They put BYU between ND and Miami so they could avoid the head to head. Then BYU s*** the bed and ND and Miami were next to each other. They could no longer avoid the issue. Yurachek further told Committee members to actually watch that game between Miami and ND before they decided.

Now as for Bama, all I've got is that number one priority was NOT to penalize a CCG participant for losing that extra game.

I don't blame any team for opting out of a meaningless bowl game.
If the team doesn't feel like the extra practice and such benefits them. why play risking a significant injury?
Do the fans really care to watch a pointless game?

If this year’s situation unfolds next year, the final at-large team (Miami) would have gotten bumped for No. 11 Notre Dame.

I think it is awesome. Miami was 18 in the first rankings and kept moving up while ND stayed in the same place. Both kept winning and at the last second they pull the rug out from under them.

Don't really care what team it is but giving the middle finger to the CFP committee is good in my book. This is the same committee everyone has been complaining about with the Aggies ranking.

I don't blame them at all. I would hope we'd do the same thing. The automatic conference championship bids need to go. How would yall feel if we'd been comfortably inside the CFP rankings every week and then this happened?

JMU lost to mediocre Louisville, the only power 4 team the scheduled. Tulane only schedules 2 power 4 teams and one was Northwestern. They got curb stomped in the other by Ole Miss and they get a rematch? I think there needs to be a rule that any non power 4 team must beat at least 2 power 4 teams to be eligible for the CFP consideration.

Bowl games outside the play offs are meaningless. I can't believe I actually miss the BCS.

I don't blame ND for being upset. This whole operation was contrived and everyone knows it. I'm disappointed that they're opting out. ND vs Vandy or tu would have been a good game if most of the starters played. BYU against any of the 3 would get smoked.

If they keep G5 teams eligible they should have to be undefeated.

I do. We were hosed in 2020 in their favor. Did they cry any tears over that, any "sorry about that" ? Of course not.

There are a lot of things that have been impediments in the evolution of college ball but two were strictly because of special exceptions. When the Rose Bowl insisted they needed to retain PAC 10 B1G matchups and not ever changing their scheduled start time as a CONDITION for joining into the BCS and everything related to ND being given special treatment. Penn State and Miami were indies who joined a conference, among others.

Why wasn't ND subject to the same pressure?

Iowa St and Kansas St both just opted out and rhe BDF just fined them $500K each for breaking bowl contracts.

Glad they did not make the playoffs but I do not blame them for opting out of a bowl game. I hope a few others do as well. This will keep the discussion going and continue to shed light on the absurdity of letting in two teams that are nothing more than little sisters of the poor. Maybe it will help bring about change.
