Reed is a sophomore that has a way to go before he hits his ceiling. I expect him to improve.

Problem with Kleins scheme is that the good defenses figured it out by end of the season but Klein didn't make many adjustments. Play calling got super predictable. Reed was more effective when the rolled him out yet Klein left him sitting in the pocket without many options.

A lot of Reeds issues are mechanical and fixable. Not setting his feet and missing high. Good defenses figured out they just need to sit in zone and watch his eye.

Running the ball must be a priority this offseason. Losing Moss hurt. Now we have no power runner and rotating speed runners every other play and sending them up the gut isn't helping

His issues are zone defense he's awful in the red zone half of his ints were thrown there. Regardless of OC he's gonna see zone all day just like Texas and Miami games. He needs to get some accuracy he missed guys wide open all day yesterday.

In the wise words of the funky pirate Mike Leach, you can't coach accuracy.
We need a legit portal QB.

And Reed needs to hear point blank that we're going after one, and he needs to hear the hard truth about why.

He'll either pout and leave, or he'll get his sh*t together

Where is the $4 million coming in?! I've read $1.5-2 million is his estimated NIL.

That was the hypothetical Reed was given on the Robert Griffen podcast where he essentially said he would be gone for a $4M NIL deal.

Don't blame him for going after the money because his football days are numbered.

Gotta have a QB that goes thru progressions.
Rarely gets beyond his primary options, being KC and Craver.
Many times Bussey was open and overlooked

Yeah. Bussey can't catch passes if they never throw to him. They don't utilize him on the reverses. Bussey could be a valuable asset but over the course of the year we just allowed ourselves to become predictable and, when teams started taking that away, we were dead in the water. Too bad because that didn't have to be the case.

He will be starting somewhere else next year as per other Qbs texags didn't want. His passing is a helluva lot sharper and accurate Than Reed.

Big XII dominated the ACC this year.
They aren't as weak as they are made out to be on this board.

Baylor and TCU beat SMU, and West Virginia beat an overrated Pitt. Other than that, Big 12's wins were against UNCx2 and Stanford.

Dominating is a weird word to use.

Tech
AR Pine Bluff W
Kent State W
Oregon State W

BYU
Portland St W
Stanford W
East Carolina W

Utah
UCLA W
Cal Poly W
Wyoming W

Houston
SFA W
Rice W
Oregon State W (barely)

Arizona
Hawaii W
Weber State W
Kansas State W

Iowa State
South Dakota W
Iowa W
Arkansas St W

Kansas State
North Dakota W
Army W
Arizona W

TCU
UNC W
Abilene Christian W
SMU W

The top half of the Big 12 had best wins of Iowa and SMU, two middling P4 opponents. Literally none of these teams has played a top 15 team. None of these teams has played anyone with high level talent.

accuracy, accuracy, accuracy

it's the #1 problem...and it's by and large unfixable

At some point you have to stop the revolving door of QBs. This team is undefeated with Haynes King this year, but we gave up on him for the "better" Conner Weigman, who we also gave up on for the "better" Marcel Reed. Now y'all want to give up on Reed for the next "better" qb. Very few portal QBs are very good.

I agree with the Leech take on QBs with little natural accuracy out of HS. Very, very difficult to teach. And that is being proven with Reed at A&M.

If Elko doesnt try to bring in a veteran QB #2, I will be very, very nervous about 2026. Could go backwards.

Huh?

I'm certainly on the "Reed puts a ceiling on how good our offense can be" train, so I don't love him or anything, but what is this based on other than recruiting hype videos?

O'Neil he was 50% this year with the following lines:
1/2 for 2 yards 0/0 against UTSA
3/5 for 99 yards 1 TD/1 INT against USU
3/7 for 19 yards 0 TD/1 INT against Samford

Mestemaker at UNT was great at progressions. While a proven QB is better, he's affordable, so maybe worth the dice roll as another one to compete for QB1.

Yep, the more I see Reed play the more I agree with Leech. That's the #1 quality Leech looked for.

Posted this earlier: I believe that we will lose Miles O'Neil to the portal.

Here is an "Early Look" for Possible QB Situations going into the 2026 season:

1. Marcel Reed 6'1'' 175 - Junior (RS) - Here in 2026.
- Starting QB for 2026

2. Miles O'Neill 6'5" 220 - Sophomore (RS) - Here in 2026 or Possible Portal Entry
- Possible QB #2 in 2026, if Brady Hart does not advance to QB #2 in 2026

3. Brady Hart 6'4" 195 - Freshman (RS) - Here in 2026
- Possible QB #2 in 2026 - Starting QB in 2027 / 2028

4. Helman Casuga 6'1" 220
- True Freshman - Will RS as a QB in 2026 - Will enroll in classes in January 2026.
- Possible starting QB in 2028 / 2029

5. Eli Marcos 6'1" 205 - Freshman (RS) - Probable Scout Team QB - Here in 2026
6. Paxton Land 6'4" 225 - Sophomore (RS) - Probable Scout Team QB - Here in 2026

We carried 6 QB's on the roster in 2025 and probably will do the same in 2026.
So in order for us to pick up a portal QB - We would need to lose one to the portal.

This was Reed's 3rd year in the program. Would moving on really be a "revolving door?"

I'm not saying he should be replaced, b/c he may just be the best we have/can get.

Not saying Reed shouldn't be our QB #1 for 2026. But we absolutely need to be able to flip a switch to QB #2 very quickly if Reed continues to struggle against legit defenses.

Either that or Wiggins needs to develop an offense that truly takes advantage of Reeds strengths. And this likely means that you run Reed a lot more in 2026. Quit forcing him into a pocket passer....Klein talking to you!

Chances of finding someone better than Reed will be next year are slim. Mond was not great til his 4th year. Reed might be able to make the same improvement

Reed is better now than Mond ever was imo. Agree with those that say using Reed more on the move rather than coaching him to always stay in the pocket may have yielded better results in the last few games .

O'Neill for sure

I was disappointed in Elko's recent press conference in which he spoke of Reed being the QB in 2026. After such a dismal performance Saturday, I would have been encouraged if he said all positions will be open to competition in the spring.

It could be very revealing if O'Neill, Hart, and others got the same reps and coaching attention that Reed has enjoyed the last two years. With or without Reed, 2026 is going to be more difficult than 2025. We should plan accordingly.

ND QB last year, Mendoza, Beck, Chambliss, etc., lots of examples of good transfer portal QBs having not just success but big success. The current USF QB likely headed to Auburn will be a HUGE upgrade for Auburn.

We can win with Reed with a better OL and better running game vs stronger defenses. Reed looked great against teams we were able to run the ball against with success - it's the oldest formula in football.

Reed / QB is way down the list of our portal needs, it is OL and LB for the first 5-6 transfers, then other positions.
DSAG
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Reed is not the answer .
Bad pocket presence and mediocre arm strength .
We will do no better than 8-4 if he is the QB next year with what we return on offense .
The portal additions on offense will be crucial .

Byrum Brown is pretty mediocre as a thrower. He will get exposed in a real conference.
