After year 1, Elko went and hired DC and OC replacements and removed Jay Bateman from Play calling duties. As I understand it we have let Bateman and Klien go to KState and we have promoted both C's from within.

I would call that planning. I didn't like Klien after game 3 last year. Maybe you let him go after year 1, but that's kind of tough.

But Elko is the best X's and O's coach since Sherrill.

If left alone he will win.

Might as well accept the possibility regardless of the spelling. He knew Reed's flaws by now. Why did he not adjust after what should have been a loss to SC? Why did he use the same thing against sip?

Agree Klein should go and knew once he was announced as KSU HC (and saw his presser there), we were 1 and done as his thoughts were all about KSU (he hinted at that...going back to family, getting to know the players, coaching staff, portal, etc....and prob swaying a few A&M coaches to go with him). Didn't matter if he lost that game...he was moving on to where he wanted to be.

When OL plays well and provides the ability to run, Klein schemes work better (all offensive schemes work better).

Panicked play calling as Reed was under duress, which basically put all his mechanics out the window and his ability to read defenses. All teams know this...other fan bases know this...make Reed a worried passer and he's not that good in the pocket.

Klein was trying to make passing easier and take the instant pass rush pressure away (or limit the effectiveness). Truly when we went up tempo was only real success as quick, 1st read throws (via a bit of pre-read).

Unfortunately, Elko likes whatever that offense is as Wiggins has had 2 years to mimick it (will claim prior to tu game, avg'ing 30pts/game or something), but has proven it's not capable vs. good teams (or the players on the team aren't capable and there's a longer rebuild needed).

Here is why I don't worry right now about Wiggins calling plays. Every play caller is different in thought process. Yes, it could have been collaborative during game planning but final call came thru Klein.

Has the ability to be a good hire. Some time, the unknown is a good thing.

I think Klein did pretty good work building with the pieces he was given and a quarterback with a, uh, unique skillset. We'll see now what someone else can do, but it was certainly a breath of fresh air after watching Jimbo spend his last few seasons after Mond left trying to jam square pegs into round holes.

Klein ran out of luck... and he couldn't engineer a win out of current offensive players even if his life depended on it.I am sure Klein wanted CFP win but he was clueless.

This is the most overblown take. It is not a new thing that coordinators take another job before the bowl game or CFP. Dan Mullen took the Miss State head coaching job and still was the OC for Florida for the NC game. He said from 6am to 6pm that he was the Florida OC and outside of those hours that he was the head coach for Miss State. There are numerous other examples.

Klein coached the same way for Miami as he did the entire season. It wasn't that he was distracted. Look at the Auburn goal line WR screen call ! Look at the USCe goal line play call !

The problem is that he had a spastic QB, but yet instead of calling a jet sweep or QB run from the 4 yard line of Miami, he decided that he would call a pass play twice in a row. Good riddance.

Just because Mullen was still doing that from 6am to 6pm, the **** does that have to do with Klein?

The point being is that several have posted why Elko would keep Klein on when he already took the KState HC job. Keeping an OC that is leaving after the postseason is not some out of the norm policy. Oregon just had both of their coordinators take head coaching jobs and they are continuing to coach at Oregon for the CFP.

Also, the point was that Klein didn't appear distracted as he has had the same issues all season.
