Elko should have sent Klein packing when he first knew Klein was taking the k state job. It's beyond obvious his focus was somewhere else (piss poor game plan for Texas and Miami). Now he's pilfering coaches and most likely players. Good riddance you bum.

Play calling much less a problem than execution. We win comfortably with above average execution.

It was a bad hire from the beginning.

Klein did the same job this week that he's done his entire time here.

I agree the execution was piss poor but Klein has to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of the offense, specifically Reed, and tailor a game plan to that. Didnt seem like that happened. Probably bc his time was better spent focusing on another school in Kansas.

I suspect KState will have losing seasons for the foreseeable future.

Of course this is an Elko issue.

There have been problems that are clearly identified AFTER poor decisions to hire in the first place but any responses have either been slow or have waited until they sorted our their own departure

Given the environment and gift of a home game, I figured they play through bad coaching this weekend and implode next weekend.

The screen passes were reminiscent of Spav. The INT'S however...have we ever had this big of an issue with turnovers due to qb error?

lol - which players do you think he's taking to KSU?

He gave a DB coach a big bump up to DC. Good for Peterson.

Who else has he pilfered that we should be upset about?

Penalties killed us this year and did not get better on offense … drive killers and took away points … OC responsible?

Klein had us as the highest points per game in the SEC in year 1 and helped us go 11-1 in year 2. I get we are frustrated in out it ended but to say Klein was a bad hire or did a bad job here is simply ignoring reality.

I don't get all the Klein hate.
A decent Reed wins this game easily. Reed sucked however

A&M Averaged over 30 points a game this season. Running into a good run defense and the QB throwing the ball into the dirt and to the other team brought that down.

Yes a tempo pattern fixes this, and Reeds instincts. Bleeding the clock expecting lineman to hold their stance through 2, 3, 4, claps is an error waiting to occur

This board is 95% emotion, 5% rational thought.

After we lose a game, they have to find ways to make everything suck. Elko sucks, Klein sucks, despite us winning 11, they have to make sure we wall know this season ACTUALLY sucked.

The internet is a pit and sports fan boards are even worse than average.

reality is the offense has been fools gold from game 1 season one. A big 12 offense doing what b12 offenses do. Running up numbers against mediocre teams and completely disappearing when it matters.

Total collapse two years in a row now. Two years in row y'all let LSU's suicidal commitment to press man convince you the mirage was real.

This board cried and cried for "simplicity" and you got it. But reality is that simplicity does not mean QB friendly. Schematically we let linebackers stand around with nothing to do, giving the QB nothing to key on, hoping he finds busts in the back end. That's not a plan. And when that doesn't happen you get one offensive touchdown in the 3 biggest games of your tenure.

But hey it's fun watching us score a bunch of points against bottom dwellers.

Not to mention the trolls that are all piling on. I don't think any of us thought we'd go 11-2 this year. What sucks is losing the last 2 games and the way we lost them.

in the biggest two home games of his tenure with all the focus on us with the season on the line his offense put up 3 points in 8 quarters. I dont give a **** if he can smack around samford. I think we have similar success with most 5A playcallers in the state running our offense. His offense looked good against 0 great teams.

If his players didnt have a HUGE athletic mismatch in their position the offense just didnt work.

Just my opinion but I didn't think it was play calling that lost us the games. I think it was Reed.
That doesn't mean that Klein didn't call some WTF plays during the season, but overall he did a good job.
Again, just my opinion

opinions are all any of us have. You may be right, but if the QB is so bad as to not be able to run the offense called, you run a different offense.

But you're right, its really difficult to call any offense when your QB is sailing passes to his check downs and the deep ball cant even be in the playbook because your QB cant throw it.
The Collective

At some point, you have to fit what you do to your QB and the rest of the team. Klein's style depends on pinpoint accuracy in the screen game as an extension of the run game and limiting negative plays. We don't do either of those things well.

Once again the reason we have looked bad the past 10 out of 12 quarters is that Reed's accuracy, which has been questionable all along, fell off dramatically. It doesn't necessarily show up in completion percentages because our receivers were able to make some good adjustments to catch a poorly thrown pass. Reed's passes were off target that caused the timing on the play to be thrown off. How many passes did we see over the past 3 P4 opponent games cause a receiver to adjust and only gain little or negative yardage? Not to mention the flat out over or under throws that they couldn't make the catch on.

Additionally, he was not seeing the other open routes that could have made some yardage on many of these plays. These are the problems we were dealing with this season at QB. We didn't have another QB that could step in so it was ride with Reed. It was always going to be we could only go as far as Reed could take us and we hit the wall. All in all it wasn't a terrible wall if you are rational, cool and collected when you evaluate the season.

Klein wasn't the issue. He maximized our offensive talent. It didn't require pinpoint accuracy. It did require a QB to be more accurate than Reed was at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see what the staff does going forward because either Reed needs to take the next step or we need a different QB if we want to go further.

I've resigned two jobs in my life. The first I didn't do jack **** for the two weeks. I ****ed around all day and didn't give a **** about ensuring a smooth handover. The second time I went to a competitor and was immediately walked out. If this happens to us minions at the bottom, imagine some millionaire coach?

It is difficult to overcome passes flying errantly against an athletic defense. The bomb to Craver, the two picks, the fumbled pass to Moss, the grounder to KC on the crossing route, the dribbler to EJ on a five yard pass. Execute any of these and we have a decent chance of winning. Hit a majority and we win by two scores. Not to mention the middle screen to the TE that appeared to be a great call but - again - poorly executed.

Yeah, Reed and Klein catching a lot of flak...

I understand for Reed at some level, I don't know how much the wind was hurting him, but he was rushed all day. The int's in the end zone can't happen however.

But, the main culprit was the O-Line. Two egregious false starts and terrible blocking Saturday. Couldn't open a hole for a run game and had 19 QB hurries... almost half his drop backs.

Like with 2020, we're a good team with…ahem…many holes. Klein's theory that fairly predictable play rotation is fine largely isn't, but you can't lean on a roughly 60% completion rate and regular sailing and wide throws for your entire offense. The running game was mostly a joke, though. At least Marcel knew a little bit on how to break down defenders when carrying the ball but can't smoothly hand-off the ball, lateral it or pass it every time. He needs to work on that.
