Regardless, I'm not in love with these offense hires. And I'm a staunch Elko defender. It would be one thing if our offense has been elite and the strategy was to retain that identity. But I was really hoping for an infusion of new philosophies/perspectives.

Promoting internally for a QB coach after the way Marcel performed is a terrible choice. Really needed home run hire there.

Don't understand why Elko wanted more money for assistants and he's just promoting lower level guys.

I like it, it's not like these guys are inexperienced or not been on field coaches prior. I would have liked a call to Jerrod Johnson for QB Coach but let's see how it develops, pun intended.

So did everyone think we were just going to install all brand new coaches and a brand new offensive scheme or something? That'll be coming after our next .500-ish season. Maintaining continuity and attempting to build on the 11-2 season was going to happen whether or not Klein left.

The offense was elite until Klein threw in the towel for kstate. The identity is there, it was the playcalling by Klein in crucial moments and not plying to Reed's strengths that was our downfall.

These hires signal that Elko feels that way. I guess time will tell if that's the case

I see no matter how many times it's pointed out that Reed missed multiple open receivers (throwing it over their heads, in the dirt or or to the other team or just not seeing them) the "bad play calling" lemmings will not stop jumping off that cliff.

There's plenty to be upset with re: Klein and the O because of the last 2 games but I noticed something as the season progressed.

Earlier in the year, it seems the playcalling was LOTS more unpredictable. By the end of the season I felt like our playbook was down to around 20 different plays. It's almost like whatever didn't work early was trashed. It doesn't take a genius level DC to figure that out. That Xs and Os problem compounded our Jimmy and Joes problem Elko mentioned several times over the season....our schemes on both sides of the ball were mostly on point but our failures game when plays broke down or -one- guy on D made the wrong read. Hell broke loose when our physical talent wasn't enough to overcome mental mistakes.

No idea if I'm right, just a hunch...but it looked to me that by the texas and miami games...I could almost predict the exact play just by looking at the set and motion/lack of. Marcel is a perfectly adequate QB to run our offense when a) he's 100% healthy, b)he's got the time to read through progressions and c) given a wider range of plays. By the end of the season when we played really good defensive teams...he maybe had time for a primary read and then either run or check down route. Dinged up Marcel doesn't want to run as much and it seems like our check down route vs texas and miami was always a receiver standing 2 yards behind the LOS picking his nose.

I am hoping against all hope that Wiggins calls a more innovative game. Klein was conservative 95% of the time (which was fine! And it mostly worked!) and WTF the other 5%. I think it would be a terrible idea to change schemes and nomenclatures at this point...Wiggins has all of that knowledge in his head since he's been coaching it for the last 2 seasons. Maybe we'll mix in some simple wheel or angle routes as check downs. Let him cook up the playbook and make the calls and let's see what happens. If that doesn't work out next year, then we'll fire everyone.

Either Elko knows that these guys are gonna be great or we're looking for a new coach in 3-4 years. I don't see much middle ground here.

Don't forget the throws way behind the receivers! Those were my favorite and we were treated to several of them a game.

By and large, the lemmings are still in love with Reed for his 2024 performance vs. LSU. It's time for people to realize that could well have been LSU being bad, not Reed being great.

Mid-tier QBs win from time to time, doesn't mean they're the primary reason for the win

Reed's 2024 and 2025 performance against LSU was him running the ball 99% of the time. Literally had to stop passing in 2025's 2nd half for fear he'd throw another INT in the endzone.

You promote when the system is infallible and proven to win. Do we feel that about the system? Defense maybe but offense needs new ideas. This won't get you new ideas.

Defensive system I'm less worried about, because of Elko's great defenses here under Jimbo despite not even elite players really.

Now that was a good hire in retrospect. Lucky it wasn't a random analyst promoted instead who has no recruiting chops.

I agree. The last two games we abandoned establishing a running game and didn't seem inclined to get into heavy sets to help that cause. In my opinion we put too much on Reed's shoulders and doggedly stuck with it even when he was off.

Prediction: we get another top-tier ($) defensive coach after the playoffs.

Team was 4th in the SEC in PPG and 5th in yards per game. Unless Kiffin or Heupel was going to take a demotion to QB coach then you're promoting from inside one of the top staffs in the league.

I agree, my point is just that the aforementioned lemmings love Reed for "winning" us that game in 2024.

It looks like the LSU defense under Baker was just incompetent though. I'd bet many QBs could've done the same as Reed had they been put in that same position.

Based of that, I don't think Reed won us that game, I think the LSU defense won it for us.

This is just a WAG but here goes. As has been mentioned many times, there is no limit on the number of coaches. We could hire the best QB guru tomorrow and designated him as an analyst. My speculation has to do with timing. My guess is we need a position coach designee because we are looking at a QB in the Portal with more than 1 year of eligibility. Have no idea who but with O'Neil gone someone with more experience than Hart is needed.
