It hasn't always been, no. Usually have to be stood up for it to be defenseless.

I've seen worse not called on "defenseless" receivers and RB's that were getting tackled.

Being stood up is just one possibility for being defenseless. Another is being in the process of making a catch. It could also be a QB in the middle of throwing. Or being pulled to the ground. Basically, anything where you have no ability to get out of the way or adjust to lesson the impact.

Dude, the receiver's facemask hit him in the face and hit mouthguard flew 5 yards downfield. Number 20 smashed directly into his face. That is part of the head in case your forgot. You can't do that.


Oh I know. There's just nothing the defender could have done short of letting himself get trucked. The QB threw a hospital ball. The DB is not supposed to let him catch it. The DB defends himself by applying force with his shoulder to where the ball would have been if not for the other defender dragging from behind. The QB should be the one ejected.

What game are you watching? 20 had plenty of time to adjust or let his guy make the tackle he had 90% completed. Instead he went for a kill shot and hit him inthe head. Too bad. Bye bye.

I'm not angry. I just have no idea what our game last year has to do with this game.


Had it been called against Miami, we may still be playing. The rule needs to be cleaned up. It's frustrating to see it called in one playoff game and not another. I feel like the Georgia hit was targeting and should have been called. However, the lack of consistency harmed us. It may not frustrate you. But it frustrates the hell out of me.

I think that's the question. The call is arbitrary.

So is pass interference, and holding, and probably half a dozen other types of calls. I do have issue with the automatic ejection, but it's not the only call that is up to interpretation. There are plenty of other calls that are arbitrary and come into play a lot more often.
