He can fill the #10-ish role when we play a 3-5-2, at 15m he's a relatively inexpensive signing for depth when most of our recent depth signings have been ~30m. He's a threat to shoot from outside the box which is something our midfield could definitely use against teams that pack it in against us. He's young and English, which gives him some value, and his value practically doubles when he signs a new contract with us. Even if he makes marginal contributions for the next 2-3 years, we'll still likely make a profit off of him.

I'm not a huge fan in that I'd rather just give that time to RLC. Everyone gets mad that the academy isn't producing star players but we shouldn't be looking at the academy for that - the academy should be about producing cheap, cost controlled squad players who can contribute but free us up to spend the big bucks to improve the starting 11. I'd rather buy 2 players for 60m each year than 5-6 players at 30m each.
