In defense of GB's tactics (though the player selection is still his fault), it's pretty impossible to evaluate any formation or tactics when the heart of your midfield plays so poorly.
I think it will be astonishing how big the increase in play will be when you insert a few of our quality players into crucial roles.PatAg said:

Largely just looked like our squad didn't want to be there. Sure there are more important games looming, but that was just a crap effort.
I would have serious questions about a lot of the players effort/heart that started the past 2 games. A distinct lack of effort in addition to skill, which is the truly unacceptable part to me

I don't see a leader on the field either. No one getting the team refocused or chewing on anyone for poor play/decisions. It's concerning.
I think that guy will be Adams as well, theoretically thats something Trapp should be doing as well as being the link for the team while we learn the new system.jeffk said:

His repeated inclusion should be a big warning flag. GB has a lot to prove already

What's GB done to warrant the gig? At this point, I'd cut bait and hire someone who can instill some fight and spirit into the program. It's much easier to process a loss when the team is giving 100% effort. It's complete garbage when the team shows no fight or spirit. And I lay that on Berhalter.
It's a shared responsibility at that level.
But, either way, I wouldn't cut bait on a coach because of some friendlies and certainly not right before a tournament.

That has to be the reason Trapp always plays. I'm sure it shows him running around like crazy since he's always out of position and always losing the ball so he chases the opposing team.
This is the only reason I can think of why Trapp would actually get playing time and it's still a ****ty one.
Twenty years ago or so the USMNT seemed to be on the edge of becoming relevant. We are now more irrelevant than ever. Amazingly disappointing lack of improvement in all aspects of US Soccer. The organization probably needs to be blown up and started over.
I'm not hitting eject on our new coach just yet, he's had the team playing good soccer at times recently, but there are definitely some signs for concern. Hopefully they'll shake this off and play well during the Gold Cup.
Just to clarify its not coaching, its everything else IMHO.

Agree, leadership from top down, such a shame. I see more push to become like Europe as the fix, that's only going to drive more of our best athletes away. I am sure many will show to to tell me how wrong I am, yet here we are.
Oh, USSF has some deep-seated issues, but I do actually think some of them are being addressed with the new regime, but there is sadly a new boss same as the old boss mentality across a lot of the organization.

That has also been the case for decades. The U20 seems to show great promise only to see no further development of the National Team.
That really hasn't been the case though. How many U world cups and Olympics did our youth teams miss in the past several cycles?

When was the last time before this year the u20 team was comprised of A. 100% professionals and B. the majority being developed internationally?
I ll give you a hint. Never.
When have we ever had so many over 20 playing in Europe? Also never, yet we suck more than in than in the early 1990s.

We have developed U20 pretty good over the decades compared to where we started. The big gap has been translating that to better mens teams. It seems since the mid 90s we have had youth that every 4 or 5 years the thought "just wait until the get to the National Team". They never do or if the do there essentially journey man like Freddy Adu.
