Jill Ellis has been getting out-coached in the women's game for years now and we've basically been winning matches in spite of her poor tactical prowess due to the talent level of the players. She fails to adjust in matches when something isn't working and adapting isn't what she does.
And for all the crap I've given GB over his Adams-RB experiment, we've seen two games in a row now where the team has a much better 2nd half due to adjustments.

Ok. I'm going to admit it. I'm not a fan of what Berholter is doing with player selection and lineups, but he really impressed me as a calm leader.

I'm not blaming Berhalter for the system not producting players. It's been well documented about the "lost generation" which really showed in the last WC qualifying cycle.

When was the last time the USMNT had a true #10? Reyna over a decade ago?

I feel like deciding to play your best attacking winger as a #10 is actually a go-to move by coaches all across the spectrum of soccer.

I know Pulisic played as a winger for Dortmund and did wonderfully, but he has said that he prefers playing as a 10, and played there at times under Arena, and possibly Klinnsman too (my memory is a bit foggy - it wasn't a great time).

How many countries/teams have true 10s anyways? Tactically you can cover for the fact you dont have a true 10. I think most teams would rather have a good #6 + #8 combo with a decent #9 than a true #10.

I agree. #1 - He's the best option we have there. #2 - He isn't in the game enough when he's been left out wide.

That's one decision by Berhalter I would've also made myself and I'm not sure why someone would complain at all about that.

I was more responding to the criticism of playing Pulisic as a #10. He's not really playing a true #10 anyway as he has the freedom to drift out wide and combine.

The biggest problem is that our #6 options currently are not mobile enough at the international level without having to have at least one of our attacking mids play more defensively. This could all be solved if we play Adams as the #6.

Also, pretty much everyone acknowledges that we have a much better option at RB but Yedlin is out due to injury. Additionally, this tourney is kind of in a gap in our pre-Hex timeline. A bunch of guys who will (hopefully) figure into the squad were tied up in youth tournaments. Winning the ridiculously-large Gold Cup trophy would be fun, but I'd rather see our youth teams find success and develop further this year.

Messi is a more of a winger though. Ozil is probably the closest to a true #10 in this discussion.

Except the only time Adams and Yedlin played together under Berholter, Yedlin played wing and Adams played right back.

Pulisic can think he is a 10, and he can maybe that some day, but I don't think he has shown it yet. It's going to be real exciting to see GB integrate all the younger players as they come up
