Sophia Smith was the biggest disappointment of the tournament for me. After two goals in an easy first match, she didn't even sniff the goal the rest of the way. Completely neutralized. Airmailed her penalty which would have won it.

On the other hand, her close friend Naomi Girma was the brightest spot. Flawless in her positioning, timing, and distribution.

They weren't good subs but to argue they were made for publicity purposes is obtuse.

Girma was a rock.

It was my first international soccer match, had a blast, so sad that we possessed the ball so much and couldn't cash in. Swedish goalkeeper played an incredible match.

On all 3 misses they went right and the goalie went the other way. So all they had to do was get the shot in the goal.

On the one hand, their performance in the 3 previous games did not warrant progressing to the QFs.

On the other hand, their performance in this game did.

They looked immeasurably better today. Numerous good performances around the field but unfortunately, we ran into a great goalie having a great game. We win that game 3-0 if she puts in even an average performance. Penalties are what penalties are but pretty sure we'll never see another one like that again.

The silver lining is that if you wanted to see Vlatko fired (and other changes), the only way that was going to happen was by losing this game. He probably survives if we get to the semis after 2 dominating performances. US soccer is dumb enough to keep him even after today but I'd say the odds are not in his favor.

Rapino did nothing well

This was never a roster that could believably go all the way for me. Too many older players well past their prime and too many younger players with very little experience. Couple that with the huge number of impact players we are missing (Mewis, Macario, Swanson, Press, Sauerbrunn, etc.) and this result doesn't really surprise me. I still thought we'd win the group and reach the semifinal despite our deficiencies.

Congratulations to the men's team. With that loss the US women will likely bring home around $2mm. The men got $13mm last year.

The two teams will now split the approximate $15mm under the new agreement. So they lost a ton of their revenue to placate a lie perpetrated by the women's team and the idiots in the media. Can't really blame the men. You know the media would have roasted them if they stood up to it or went against it.

This has been coming for years and I've been saying it through the whole equal pay nonsense when people say bUt tHeYre the BeSt.

Yeah. Easy to be the "best" when no other country gives two ****s about women's soccer. They had a 30 year head start and big time advantage. Once the euro countries started putting money on the women's side it was over. It was seen a little bit in the last WWC. Blatantly obvious here in this one.

This team will be better next time just by not having a Rapinoe and several of the other older USA hating kneelers on the squad.

Maybe this humbled USA women's soccer and Nike enough to look in the mirror. Doubt it but you never know. The women's u23 US team looks pretty good and they actually have some pride in who they are playing for, about all you can ask for at this point.

And by the way, everyone who called on Carli Lloyd to apologize should be apologizing to her today.
