If Swanson were starting and Morgan came in as a sub, this team had an entirely different look.

Morgan was pretty gassed. I agree that bringing in Rapinoe wasn't the right move. This team lacked scorers so not sure who would've been the right sub.
I don't know that I'd say the US was unlucky. They had chances and didn't execute. A lot of those attempts on goal weren't remotely threatening. This team never clicked in the last third. Even against Vietnam.

Idk, I think if folks are wanting to be mad, they'll find something or someone in the next generation of players to be mad about. Same about the teams of the good old days - I doubt that folks would love the personal politics of every player on the title-winning teams of the previous generation; they just mostly lacked the outlets and opportunities to voice their beliefs.
As far as next steps for the WNT, there needs to be some thought given to continuing to widen the talent ID net and development opportunities for American girls. Youth leagues are a complicated and pricey mess. And straightening out the scandal-ridden NWSL is a must too. New coaching staff as well. But this all depends on USSF leadership having a vision and goal for the future of the sport in the country and that's tough for me to buy at this point. I'd be happy to have them prove me wrong though.

Did s anyone else wonder why the showed the post match celebration instead of a replay of the pk. Just a thought because I think FIFA is corrupt.

Took a while but they gave us what we wanted. Eventually got the VAR-type look at the ball BARELY over the line.

I think so... not directly. They did the thing where they morph the video into the computer image and show the ball and the line.
When they say there are fine margins in a World Cup 🤏

This is how close the VAR call for Sweden's winning penalty in their #FIFAWWC match against the USA was! pic.twitter.com/i8s86awW2Y

This came up on Reddit. A lot of people asking what the margin of error is for goal line tech. At some point, we have to just go with good enough. In tennis, Hawkeye has a margin of error like 3mm. Everyone accepts the decision of Hawkeye.
Again, to my point earlier, Instant replay is supposed to fix the egregious errors not legislate the game. If a couple of millimeters near a line are the decision point, I don't think anyone should complain. It's the player offside by 2 yards, that is what needs fixing. The concacrap play acting that gets American players red carded. Of course, we have already seen how they won't fix that.jeffk said:
Oh, and pray your team isn't the one that gets screwed in that scenario.
Totally fair, just in a situation like this when it's literally a question of millimeters and your team is on the short end..it sucks.jeffk said:Furlock Bones said:

Agreed. If you have a system, eventually a scenario will arise that pushes the tolerances. You just have to go with "good enough" in those situations.

That said, VAR has ruined offside for me. I want it called if an attacker gets a step on a defender, I don't care (for or against my team) if there's a shoulder or arm or head leaning ahead. That means they just reacted faster and I'm fine with them having a slight advantage.

Article says an affirmative goal by 1 mm and the system reportedly has a margin of error of 3-5 mm. It's supposed to take 1 second and took 27.

take out all of the extraneous crap which we've all talked about. go back to the last Olympics. many could see the writing on the wall for this group of players. they won the last world cup, but it was obvious they were on the downswing.
US Soccer should have taken the Olympics as a wake up call to massively overhaul the roster. but, they didn't. this was a not unexpected result.
