Well boys and girls, it's that time of year where we get to see the battle in the back half of the EPL table as teams seek to avoid demotion out of the Premier League and down to the EFL Championship Division. Bottom three teams will go down, and right now it looks like this could be a great relegation battle (which we need after last season when we were pretty much done and dusted with 10 matches left). Tottenham's entry into the relegation battle is not something I had on my radar, but here we are. Looks like the possibility of one of the big clubs going down this year is a real one, and we are all but assured that one of Leeds, Forest, West Ham and Tottenham will be relegated. Looks like it will take more points this year to secure safety than we have had the past 4-5 seasons, so should be a great final few months of the season!

Current Standings
Team. Matches Played. Points. Goal Differential.
15. Leeds United 29 31 -11
16. Spurs 29 29 -7
17. Nottingham Forest. 29 28 -15
18. West Ham 29 28 -19
19. Burnley. 29 18 -26
20. Wolves 30 16 -30

Leeds United. Leeds started the season slowly but has been better since December. They only lead 18th place West Ham by 3 points, so they are squarely in the battle. Looks like it's going to take 40 points this season to secure safety, so with 9 matches left they have some work to do. Leeds main problem has been claiming 1 point draws instead of wins. Leeds will play four of the other five relegation battlers on the lead in, so their fate will be firmly in their own hands. Win those 4 and the remainder of the games are largely irrelevant.

Tottenham Hotspur. I don't recall ever having Spurs as a part of this relegation discussion, but they are right in the middle of it, just one point clear of 18th place West Ham. The troubling part for Spurs is that they are playing their worst football of the season right now, having dropped their last 5 PL matches. Their last win in the PL was December 28. Ouch. Spurs get 3 other relegation teams in the final 9, so there is opportunity, but the club needs wins desperately. With their Champions League blowout last night, the club should be able to turn their attention to staying up in the EPL for next season.

Nottingham Forest. Since their return to the EPL, Forest have flirted with relegation fairly consistently and are now out of the bottom three only on goal differential. The club is also in the midst of a Europa League run, so will be interesting to see how they handle the fixture logjam and player minutes. The team is a legit contender to win a European Cup, but would they risk an EPL spot to claim one? Forest only has 2 points from their last 5 EPL matches, so the tables need to turn on their EPL results or relegation is a real issue.

West Ham. Like Forest, the Hammers seem to be regulars in the relegation battle, always finding a way to avoid dropping down a flight. The club has been playing much better of late, claiming 8 points from their last 5 matches. That has closed the gap with Forest, Spurs and Leeds. The Hammers only have 2 matches remaining with their other bottom dwellers and have arguably the hardest run in of the teams, so points will be at a premium

Burnley and Wolves. The drop off after West Ham to the bottom 2 clubs is quite drastic, as Burnley trail safety by 9 points and Wolves by 12. Both clubs have played better as of late, Wolves especially, but it looks like too little too late to stay up this season. Would take a tremendous run by either team to stay out of relegation this season.

Looking forward to keeping track of this again and will mix in some promotion/relegation talk as well for all the lower levels.

Definitely going to be an interesting run in. Burnley and Wolves are pretty much toast, but Wolves are also playing well enough now that they're very capable of taking other teams down.

Key Weekend Matches in Relegation Battle

Saturday, March 14

Burnley v. Bournemouth (10am, Turf Moor, Peacock)--Burnley need wins, badly, to have any hope of fighting their way out of a relegation spot. The Clarets have gone 1-1-3 over their last five for 4 points, which just isn't good enough. With 9 matches remaining they will need to claim at least 20 points for any hope, so that means winning at least 6 with a couple draws, or 7 of their last 9. Bournemouth meanwhile have become a tying machine, not losing a match in their last 5, but only winning one of those five, for a total of 7 points. The Cherries sit in 9th and still have European aspirations. Bournemouth won 2-0 when the clubs met earlier this season and will be looking to add three more points to their European dreams.

West Ham v. Manchester City (1pm, London Stadium, USA Network)--The Hammers will welcome City to East London, looking to add salt to City's wounds following their 3-0 defeat at Real Madrid. West Ham have claimed points from 4 of their last 5, garnering 8 points in the process and closing the gap to safety. City meanwhile have been on a roll, winning 4 of their last 5, with a draw against Forest their only blemish. City claimed a comfortable 4-1 win over the Hammers when the clubs met at the Etihad earlier this season.

Sunday, March 15

Nottingham Forest v. Fulham (9am, City Ground, Peacock)Forest will welcome Fulham to the City Ground Sunday, looking for some positivity going forward for the second leg of their Europa Draw and for the remainder of the EPL Season. Forest have only claimed 2 points from their last 5 matches, while the Cottagers have gone 2-3-0 over their last 5 matches for 6 points. Forest need to claim home points here on out to keep above West Ham and 18th place. Fulham claimed a 2-1 win the last time the clubs met in the fall, back at Craven Cottage.

Crystal Palace v. Leeds (9am, Selhurst Park, Peacock)Leeds will travel to South London on Sunday afternoon to meet the Eagles. Leeds have gone 1-2-2 over their last 5, for 5 points, but have lost their last 2 matches. Palace meanwhile are 3-2-0 over their last 5, alternating wins and losses along the way. Palace absolutely thrashed the Whites when they met at Elland Road earlier this season. A lot has changed for both clubs since then, and Leeds will be hoping to find an elusive 3 points away from home.

Liverpool v. Spurs (11:30am, Anfield, Peacock)Things go from bad to worse for Tottenham, as the Spurs travel from a crushing loss in CL at Atletico Madrid to a match in Liverpool against the Reds. Liverpool are 3-2-0 in their last 5 while Tottenham have hit rock bottom, going 0-5-0 for 0 points. Tottenham are in a real bad way, and trips to Liverpool generally aren't the way to stop a 5 game EPL winless streak. Tottenham did win 2-1 the last time the clubs met, so at least they will have Liverpool's full attention.

Monday, March 17
Brentford v. Wolves (3pm, Gtech Community Stadium, USA Network)Wolves need to essentially win out to have any hope of avoiding relegation, and the dream will start in West London at Brentford in a Monday night tilt. Brentford are playing well, sitting in 7th and looking towards a possible European spot, while Wolves have been much better of late, going 2-1-2 for 8 points in their last five, including 2 straight wins. Probably a case of too little too late, but the dream continues for now for Wolves.

Enjoy the weekend!

Burnley claim a point against Bournemouth at home, 0-0, but draws really do them no good, especially at home against a mid-level club.

West Ham meanwhile claim a point that they can be much happier with, as the Hammers drew with City 1-1 at London Stadium. Nice point for West Ham that pulls them above Forest, pending Forest's match tomorrow.

Leeds and Forest both claim a point as well. Leeds were fortunate to hold on for a point on the road, going down to 10 men before half, while Forest will be disappointed in a point at home.

Thanks for this man. It's great. Here's my pick of who I want to go down:

1) As an Everton fan, Spurs fans were pretty quick to make jokes about us potentially having the nicest stadium in the championship… boy have the tables turned. Everton fans have long memories (we have to since we have no hardware in 30 years!)

2) Leeds… well because **** Leeds. That relegation battle between us and them a couple years ago was INTENSE. I do have a soft spot for them though… last time we went over there, we went to a pub and it was full of Leeds fans. We got plastered and took a big group picture. When we got home to Texas, there was a Christmas card in our mailbox with that picture from all those Leeds boys.

3) Forest. Their owner rivals our former owner Moshiri for being so reckless. I don't have hatred for them but this manager carousel has been strange. I can't believe they sacked Nuno.m for him getting in a fight with Marinakis. How stupid.

4) West Ham. Grass isn't always greener is it? Us Everton fans were happy to have Moyes back.

Weekend Matches

Saturday, March 21
Fulham v. Burnley (10am, Craven Cottage, USA Network)--Burnley will make the trip south to the Capitol for a Saturday afternoon match in West London. Burnley really need three points every time out to catch up with the clubs ahead of them, so while road draws might sound good in the fall, the Clarets should be in more of a "three points or bust" mentality. Burnley have played better of late, going 1-2-2 for 5 points in their last 5. Fulham, meanwhile, are safe and looking to finish in the top 10 of the league, and have gone 2-2-1 for 7 points in their last 5. Fulham claimed a 3-2 win at Turf Moor when the clubs met in December.

Leeds v. Brentford (3pm, Elland Road, USA Network). Leeds are still a couple of wins way from pulling out of the relegation battle, and will welcome Brentford this Saturday hoping to add three more points to their tally. Leeds are winless in their last 5, going 0-2-3 for 3 points out of their last five. The Bees are 1-1-3 for 6 points from their last 5, and currently sit in 7th place in the EPL, looking up towards a potential European Spot for next season. The two clubs drew 0-0 earlier this season then they met earlier this season. Should be an entertaining match in the Northwest on Saturday.

Sunday, March 22
Aston Villa v. West Ham United (9:15am, Villa Park, Peacock). West Ham travel to the Midlands on Sunday looking for three points and a path out of the bottom three. The Hammers are 1-1-3 for 6 points from their last five, while Villa will be looking to end a three match winless streak and keep their Champions League hopes alive. Big match for both clubs, should be a great game. Villa pulled off a wild -2 win at London Stadium when the clubs met in December, we can hope for some of the same on Sunday.

Tottenham v. Nottingham Forest (9:15am, Hotspur Stadium). Forest will travel to North London for a Sunday afternoon match against Tottenham in undoubtedly the biggest match of the weekend. It's a 6-pointer in the relegation battle as both these clubs will be looking to put some distance between themselves and the bottom 3. Tottenham come into this one in poor form, having gone 0-4-1 for 1 point over their last 5, while Forest have been a bit better, but just a bit, having claimed 3 points from their last 5, going 0-2-3 in the process. Forest will be hoping for a repeat of their December result against Spurs when Forest claimed a 3-0 win in Nottingham. Should be a really entertaining match, with both clubs gunning for all three points.

Big weekend in the Relegation Battle, hope you get to enjoy it!

Crazy weekend in the relegation fight, as it is looking more and more likely that one of the big London clubs, be it West Ham or Tottenham, will be relegated. Burnley missed an opportunity to close the gap, and their relegation fate is all but assured. Meanwhile, Forest picked up a huge three points while also pushing Spurs closer to the bottom three, and Leeds secured a point, as they appear to be one-pointing their way towards safety.

Fulham 3-1 Burnley. Fulham boosted their hopes of clinching a European place with a 3-1 comeback win over 10-man Burnley at Craven Cottage. Marco Silva's side had fallen behind to Zian Flemming's goal, but responded in style to dent Burnley's push to avoid relegation from the Premier League. Josh King soon got Fulham back level, pouncing on a Martin Dubravka mistake assisting Harry Wilson for his 10th Premier League goal of the season. Raul Jimenez added a late third from the penalty spot, having been impeded by Josh Laurent, who received a straight red card. Fulham are now up to ninth, two points behind Brentford in seventh, while Burnley remain 19th, still nine points behind Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Leeds 0-0 Brentford. Leeds United and Brentford had to settle for a point apiece as they battled to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road. Leeds were frustrated in attack as their Premier League goal drought stretched to four games, with a wayward glancing header from Pascal Struijk representing their best chance. Mathias Jensen crashed a shot into the side netting for Brentford, representing the Bee's best scoring opportunity. Leeds are now winless in six Premier League games, but they can boast a four-point cushion over 18th-placed West Ham United.

Aston Villa 2-0 West Ham United. Ollie Watkins was back on target as Aston Villa returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham United. John McGinn finished off a set-piece early in the first half, with his curling effort hitting the top corner. Watkins then netted his first league goal since late January with an emphatic finish into the roof of the net. With the loss West Ham remain 18th, having missed the chance to move out of the relegation zone with a victory.

Tottenham 0-3 Nottingham Forest. Forest boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation and left Tottenham Hotspur in huge trouble with a crucial 3-0 away win. Spurs fans lined the streets to welcome Igor Tudor's under-fire side to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ahead of Sunday's game, but another poor display saw their winless run stretch to 13 matches. Spurs spent much of the first half on the front foot and hit the woodwork twice, but they fell behind to Igor Jesus' header just before half. A Guglielmo Vicario error allowed Morgan Gibbs-White to make it 2-0 just after the hour mark, then substitute Taiwo Awoniyi added a late third as Forest earned their first Premier League win under Vitor Pereira. They climb to 16th in the table, three points above West Ham United in 18th, while Spurs are only one point clear of the relegation zone.

Glad to not see Sunderland in the relegation watch. Went up and started great.

Burnley seems stuck at up down up down. They are going down again.

Championship is turning out to be interesting. Looks like Lampard has Coventry in first by 9 points, not guaranteed but likely to get the auto promotion. There are 7 games to go. Wrexham is in 7th one spot out of playoffs for last spot by points differential.

It's getting down to the exciting part for relegation and promotions. Will be watching.

After a two week break, the EPL will return to full action this coming weekend, and with it we will begin the final stretch of the relegation battle. All the teams have 7 matches remaining, so it will be full on relegation fight from here on out for our clubs lurking near the bottom. Burnley and Wolves are just about out of time, but we will keep them in the discussion until their duck is officially cooked. The battle for the third and final relegation battle is going to be fascinating, with all four battling clubs desperate to avoid relegation.

Current Standings
Team. Matches Played. Points.
15. Leeds United 31 33
16. Nottingham Forest. 31 32
17. Spurs 31 30
18. West Ham 31 29
19. Burnley. 31 20
20. Wolves 31 17

Here are the remaining games for each of the battling clubs:

Leeds: @ Man United, v. Wolves, @ Bournemouth, v. Burnley, @ Spurs, v. Brighton, @ West Ham. Leeds will clearly be in control of their own fate, as they have more points than anyone else in the battle right now, and they play an astonishing 4 of their remaining 7 matches against other relegation dwellers. Leeds have only lost 2 of their last 7 matches, but unfortunately, they also have only claimed 1 win over that span, drawing 4 matches in 7. Turn just a couple of all their draws into wins and this team would be well out of the relegation battle. If the club claims 3 points in home matches v. Wolves and Burnley, they should be in pretty food shape.

Nottingham Forest: v. Villa, v. Burnley, @ Sunderland, @ Chelsea, v. Newcastle, @ Man United; v. Bournemouth. Forest's remaining schedule is much more difficult than Leeds, with Forest playing only one fellow relegation battler, and having to play 3 clubs who will be fighting for Champions League positions. Like Leeds, Forest have claimed a lot of draws as of late, tying 4 of their last 8, and only claiming one win over that same timespan. Continuing to eek out draws will be important, but Forest will also need to claim some 3 pointers down the stretch, especially at home.

Tottenham Hotspur: @ Sunderland, v. Brighton, @ Wolves, @ Villa, v. Leeds, @ Chelsea, v. Everton. Spurs have been on a downward spiral, claiming only 2 points from their last 8 matches. Remarkably, Tottenham still have not won an EPL match in 2026, having to go all the way back to December 6, 2025 for their last EPL win. Spurs don't give you a lot of confidence they can turn this ship around, and it will apparently be the responsibility of new manager Roberto De Zerbi to pull the club out of this tailspin. The matches versus Wolves and Leeds will be massive for this club, as they desperately seek to avoid the bottom three.

West Ham: v. Wolves, @ Palace, v. Everton, @ Brentford, v. Arsenal, @ Newcastle, v. Leeds. The Hammers have a pretty favorable schedule for the remainder of the season, with only a match at the Emirates against Arsenal versus a Champions League battling side. They have two matches against other relegation battlers which will be very important, and the remainder are against clubs who may be just playing out the season as mid level clubs who have already secured safety. West Ham have been better as of late, going 2-2-3 for 9 points out of their last 7. Those numbers have to cause significant concern for their North London neighbors.

Burnley: v. Brighton, @ Forest, v. Man City, @ Leeds, v. Villa, @ Arsenal, v. Wolves. At 20 points, Burnley would essentially need to win 5 of their last seven to get to 35 points and have any hope of avoiding relegation. Now mind you, this is a club who has won all of 4 of their first 31 matches this season, so to say it is an uphill battle is an understatement. The Clarets do have three matches against other relegation battlers, so win those three, find 2 more and then hope 35 points is enough? Well the trick will be finding two more wins out of a very difficult slate that include three of the top four EPL clubs. Good luck.

Wolves: @ West Ham, @ Leeds, v. Spurs, v. Sunderland, @ Brighton, v. Fulham, @ Burnley. Now while Wolves have 3 less points than Burnley, and have won only 3 EPL matches all season, 2 of those wins have come in their last three matches, and the club is 2-1-2 for 8 points from its last 5. Wolves have real opportunities in front of them as well, playing four more matches against the other relegation battlers, and their other three remaining matches are against mid-level clubs, with no team in the top 8 remaining on their schedule. It is still a near impossible task, as Wolves would need to get to 35 points to have any realistic hope of safety, meaning that a club who has claimed 17 points from their first 31 matches, will need to muster 18 points from their last 7. Good luck.

Yeah I think they base it heavily on their Global Power Rankings… and the Spurs are a huge anomaly there because they did pretty well in Champions League this year (and I don't know how long historical results linger in their rankings too).

Weekend Matches

Friday, April 10
West Ham v. Wolves (2pm, USA Network, London Stadium)What a great start to the weekend with a vital six pointer. The Hammers need to capitalize on an opportunity to take 3 points at home from a bottom dwelling club, and for Wolves this is really a last gasp opportunity to pull themselves out of the bottom of the standings, they simply must have three points. The Hammers are 1-2-2 for 5 points from their last five, while Wolves have gone 2-1-2 for 8 points over the same stretch. So Wolves have been in good form, and this will be a tricky match for West Ham, as they need three points, but Wolves have shown an ability to capitalize on such desperation. The clubs met at Molineaux back on January 3, and Wolves came out with a 3-0 thrashing of West Ham for their first EPL win of the season, so this match should have the Hammers full attention.

Saturday, April 11
Burnley v. Brighton (9am, Peacock, Turf Moor)The Clarets will welcome Brighton to the north on Saturday afternoon in what is a must win match for Burnley. Burnley are at a point where three points every match is vital, as they have gone 0-3-2 for 2 points from their last five matches, and are 10 points out of 17th place with 7 matches remaining. It wont be easy against a Gulls squad who comes in flying high, having gone 4-1-0 in their last 5 EPL matches to give themselves European aspirations. Brighton enjoyed a 2-0 in at home when the clubs met back in January, so the club from the South Coast will be looking for more of that on Saturday.

Sunday, April 12
Nottingham Forest v. Aston Villa (8am, Peacock, City Ground)Forest will welcome Midland neighbors West Ham to the City Ground on Sunday, with Forest hoping to distance themselves from the bottom three and Villa desperate to hold onto their Champions League position. Forest have gone without a defeat in their last three (1-0-2) to help them climb out of the relegation spots, but need to keep stacking up points to feel safely out of the battle. Villa are 1-3-1 in their last five, and that run of poor form has seen the Villans drop to 4th in the table, where their Champions League position is now vulnerable. Villa claimed a 3-1 win back when the clubs met at Villa Park on January 3.
Sunderland v. Tottenham Hotspur (8am, USA Network, Stadium of Light)If I had told you at the beginning of the season that Spurs and the Black Cats would meet in April, with one club looking to claim a European position and the other looking to avoid relegation, I am sure you would have thought Spurs were the one dreaming of Europe while Sunderland were hoping to hang on in the EPL. But alas, here we are, with Tottenham a mere point out of the bottom three and Sunderland on the fringes of the battle for Europe. Tottenham have been just flat awful, having not won an EPL match since December, and 0-4-1 over their last five, for 1 single point. This form has brought in Roberto De Zerbi as the clubs 3rd manager of the season, and he will look to right the ship before its too late. Sunderland, meanwhile, have been the darling of the newly promoted clubs and are secure in knowing they will have EPL football for next season. The Black Cats are 2-2-1 in their last five for 7 points, and will be looking to put the screws to a nervous Spurs club, hoping to avoid EPL relegation for the first time in club history.

Monday, April 13
Manchester United v. Leeds (2pm, USA Network, Old Trafford)Leeds make the short trip to Manchester for a Monday night encounter with the Red Devils in the Rose Derby. In addition to this being a very highly competitive derby, the match will have extra meaning for Leeds as they seek to pull away from the relegation battle. The Whites have been playing better of late, but they still struggle to claim three points in matches, drawing 3 of their last 5 matches. That form has them out of the bottom three, but still within breathing distance of the relegation fight. Manchester United have gone 3-1-1 over their last 5, a form that has the club sitting in third place and looking for a place in the Champions League for next season. The clubs battled to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road back in early January, and I look for much of the same intensity on Monday night.

Enjoy a great weekend in the Relegation battle!

My favorite thing about the Premier League is just being a fan of the league. I have always gone for Spurs only because when my daughter was an infant in Alaska(winter 08) the local cable company had the Premier League. First time I ever got into soccer on TV outside of World Cup, FA Cup final, etc. and the first team I watched was Spurs. So I bought FIFA for PlayStation and picked them as my team. I spent about two months immersing myself into the league while helping with baby and have loved it ever since.

But I have no real allegiances outside of being a casual Spurs fan. That makes watching the league a lot more fun for me.

Not so much a new manager bounce as a new manager fall to earth and crash for Spurs. They officially occupy the relegation spot.

I can't decide what I more. Spurs to go down just for the sheer chaos of that or WHU to go down so I never have to listen to Tom Rennie ***** and moan every Monday morning about how bad WHU are.

Hahaha. I'm right there with you on the Rennie West Ham whine fest.

I don't think the Spurs players have this fight in them which is what is really contributing to them not getting out of this muck. I think players are now negotiating their exit rather than worry about keeping the team up.

I don't know, Spurs played fairly even with Sunderland today. They were "scrappy" enough today and less half-assed than they have looked of late. The goal was an unfortunate deflection. But Spurs didn't generate enough offensively, so they got the same result as normal.
