When you blow a huge lead, there is plenty of blame to go around. Coaching, players, etc. Still don't understand why you don't foul Blazers with 20 seconds to go...
But nobody is going to talk about Blazer comeback or Maverick meltdown. Every water cooler conversation tomorrow will be about the officiating.
I thought they called an okay game for most of it. They blew lots of calls, but no team got much of advantage. The exception was Chandler. He was getting clobbered without calls. And he was dinged for three touch fouls. Two of which, he didn't even touch the guy.
The Blazers could have been hit for a couple of technicals early. Home cooking call that isn't unexpected.
I think the 4 point play to tie things was awful. Sticking your leg two feet out to kick a guy doesn't equate to defensive foul. I don't think that's a anti-Mavs call. It's just typical of the lousy NBA officials. And it was ticky-tack in that situation. Never in a million years would they have given Peja a 4pt opportunity in similar situation.
The calls on Dirk and Chandler late were dubious calls. Once the Blazers had a chance, the fix was in. Simple as that.
But the out of bounds call was egregious. If Stern was legitimate, none of those officials would ref anymore this season. And he probably should have investigation into bribery. It was one of the most blatant examples of official who is trying to fix the game.
One ref had perfect position, maybe 6 feet from the action. He immediately called "mavs ball" without hesitation. Original ref didn't not ask for help. The ref from outside the 3pt line and on other side of court, decides that other official got it wrong. Keep in mind, from his angle he can only see backsides of players involved.
Inside of 1 minute, so you go to replay. That's fair, get the call right. Nobody can say that any of the replays were clear. Forget about conclusive evidence to overturn things. If you put a gun to my head, I would say that Wallace was last to touch it. It looked like his hand was on ball longer than Chandler, by about 1-2 inches.
99.9% people said the same thing. "There are six hands there. I can barely tell which is which. And I certainly can't tell which one touched it last, I'd lean towards Wallace. But it doesn't matter. There is no evidence to overturn the original call. Mavericks keep the ball."
What an absolute joke. NBA ought to be embarrassed to put out crap like that year after year.
