Mr. Hyde showed up again tonight.

Maybe Dr. Jeckyl will be around for the Rockets.

No offense to the JET, but if any of you can reasonably argue that having Jason as your second best player is a "great supporting cast", you should stop watching basketball.

Rogue, Marion, Kidd, and Terry played very well last season. I won't deny that.

But how reliable were they in past playoffs with Dirk? Not too good. Terry was unreliable, Kidd was turnover prone. etc.

They really played a lot better than they were last playoffs. I'm not discrediting the my Mavs...it was a well deserved championship but Dirk should get most of the credit.

Would love to play those clowns come playoff time... easiest team to beat in the Western top half and really havent been the same since Duncan lost a step on offense.

How bout now bigshot?

Were we missing a started and a key backup?

anyways, we played like **** (ie Dirk couldn't make his shots) and deserved to lose to a good spurs team.

Master plan I agree - Dirk was the man last year. I definitely think Dirk was the one and only superstar on our team, last year or any other since Nash left town, and as we've stated Nash had some liabilities.

But our team was a very cohesive team, it was deep, the players knew their roles. As everyone saw last year that's far better than having 3 individual superstars not on the same page and then a bunch of guys.

I wasn't going to say anything because you know the whole "Mavs are whiners" thing - but since Cokehead brought it up - I thought Jackson and Diaw's Defense on Dirk was extremely over the line. It's like the refs give the smaller guys a pass to beat his brains out that they wouldn't let a big guy get away with. I really think if the Mavs and Spurs meet come playoff time, Dirk's going to have a conga line to the charity stripe if they play it that way.

Yes the playoffs can be more physical but during last years playoff run they seemed to clamp down a little on the back-to-basket defense. You could be right though last year might have been an aberration. I guess we'll see.

Dirk passed Barkley on the all-time scoring list. I thought this was fascinating:
quote:
“Charles was always kind of my hero,” Nowitzki said after his 31-point performance in Saturday’s win over the Rockets gave him 23,758 career points, one more than Barkley. “I always wore No. 11 in Germany, then I saw him wearing No. 14 in the Olympics in Barcelona, so then I changed my number to 14. Then when I came over, it became No. 41.”
Remember that we also got confirmation last summer that Barkley really was the first NBA source to discover Dirk in Germany - he led an NBA European tour that played a German All-star team, then was talking about Dirk in the Suns locker room where Donnie Nelson was working. So now we learn that Dirk chose his number 41 from Barkley.

You are welcome to believe the Spurs are why Dirk missed those shots, but I think he was just off.

He didn't seem to have a problem in the first quarter when those mentioned weren't guarding him.

But it's only one game so you can't really come to a conclusion either way.

From what I remember Boris Diaw shut down Dirk in the 2006 WCF... oh wait.

I think they definitely do a good job, but I dont think those players make him shoot at a horrendous rate..he was still getting open looks.

You mean the 2006 Phoenix Suns that stressed team defense?

But yea, I agree. Dirk just missed some open spot up looks.

I can see where you think Jackson could play good defense on Dirk in a playoff series, but Boris Diaw? I try to keep up with the NBA... but I never got the memo on Boris Diaw being an average, much less good defender. I honestly haven't heard much from him since that offensive "explosion" he had in the 2006 playoffs. (with all that said, I didn't watch Friday's night game)

Diaw's ranked 23rd in low post defense this year according to synergy sports. I don't know what components make up that ranking.

The Mavs record against the Rockets since that play occurred is now 24-7. Mavs haven't lost to the Rockets since 2009. And thanks again TMac for ending Shawn Bradley's career.
