If nothing else the Harden move has made Houston (and me) care about the Rockets again. The Bye week timing could not have been better. And even while the Texans are dominating the NFL, people are legitimately excited about the future of the Rockets. And the novelty of new players actually make me want to see them live.

Overall Houston sports haven't been this exciting since 2005.

Certain players are better at certain roles. Ginobili has been a top 5 SG for most of his career in terms of PER and effectiveness. But he is at his best coming off the bench to keep the team going and not drop into a sub-induced lull. Harden is pretty similar.

Both are exceptional at that, but I dont think either player could carry a team.

What are you basing this on? You're just guessing. He's never had a team to carry.

We're about to find out.

Congrats Rockets fans. Instead of being one of the worst teams in the league, you are now back to being incredibly mediocre which is the worst place to be in the NBA.

Instead of being a stupid **** and popping in here after we start 1-0, why not wait until we actually finish at the back end of the lottery before spewing your mediocre bull****?

Harden gives us a young, proven player to sell to other guys to try to get them to come to Houston now. We haven't had that recently. The Harden trade wasn't for this year. It was for the next 5 years.

Yet another example of why Cokehead is one of the worst posters on this site. That's gold

Cokehead is proving he doesn't understand how the NBA works. When top players are playing in a certain city. Other top players want to play there. Will the Rockets be mediocre this year? Very likely. But, guess what, who cares. The reason is because once you have a star locked up long-term, others will come to join him.

Now, if you want to say Harden isn't a star, then that's fine. But, if that is going to be the case, then Houston won't be mediocre this year.

Whiniest fans huh. Remember when it was the refs fault the the spurs lost to okc? Every fan base of every team is whiny when things dont go right. But i thinks its obvious that you arent wanted in rockets discussion until you can stop needlessly criticizing. Dont call us whiny for thinking you and your buddies are jackasses.

Rockets fans aren't nearly as whiney as Mav fans. Much more apathetic, though. Obviously those posting about the Rockets on an Aggie message board wouldn't be included, but as a whole, Houston has fairly apathetic fans.

They might seem apathetic.. but watch what happens if harden consistently plays like an all star. Houston is dying for relevant basketball again.

I went to over 30 Astros game each of the last few years. I've probably been to 15-25 Rockets games each of the last few years.

Houston fans are pretty apathetic in general. Unless, of course, a title can be had.

If Harden puts up 25/7 and Lin puts up 18/8 and the Rockets are 9-12 in the conference, they aren't going to be selling out.

So you went during some of the worst seasons in the last couple decades and you know how houston fans are. Man you better pray the spurs are good forever because you will have a rude awakening. All pro fans are fairweather at the macro level when facing multiple bad seasons and little hope for the immediate future.

I would bet I have been to more pro sporting events in more cities than pretty much everyone on this board. I see how Houston fans are and I see how other cities are.

Eh. Spurs have had a great run and if Pop and RC stick around when Timmy retires, they will probably have a couple down years and build back up. No one in any sport has shown a better ability to retool than the Spurs over the past 20 years. And that is why the Spurs have the best record of any team in any sport over the past 15 years and more championships than everyone but one team. In any sport.

And Spurs are a little different since they are the only show in town and t.u. is going to be mediocre at best for a while.

Disagree. Go to a Red Sox game or Cubs game. Go to a Golden State Warriors game.

If Morey can get another star and the Rockets can contend, the fans will return.

And NFL doesn't count, because I dont think a team in the league is hurting for fans, even the ones that suck. Well, except Jacksonville. Stupid NFL for putting a team in JAX.

GS, you seem like good people, but if these guys put up those numbers, Houston will sell out the games. Houston has some of the most passionate fans around, but they have grown to be short tempered after watching Drayton tear down the Astros, years of the Texans not competing, and the Rockets trotting out mediocre teams with no face of the franchise. Specifically in the Rockets case, they've jumped on many bandwagons (K-Mart, Brooks, KLOE, T-Mac, etc etc) only to be sorely disappointed. With a true star in Harden, and if Lin puts up 18/8, you can be the fan base will be energized and go to the games.

I disagree. If they are empty numbers of a non-playoff team and Houston isn't winning, I don't think fans show up. We will see what happens.

You believe what you want. Im not going to argue that a lot of houston is fairweather. But i grew up in houston amd have been around houston sports fans my whole life. Apathetic is the tampa bay rays. Houston is just beat down and and sore. You dont know the houston of the past. We had our pro football team taken away and some are just now growing to like the texans. We watched icons biggio bagwell and berkman leave the team and have nobody to cheer for. We hitched our wagons to apathetic basketball players time and again and got burned. The houston fans who grew up in houston are not apathetic. We are die hard. We might not be chicago cubs fans or red sox fans. But we arent devil ray fans, we arent dallas star fans, and we have more than 1 team to split our love between.. as well as having some of the most dedicated college sports fans in the nation. You have spurs and maybe aggies for everyone in your city that isnt a tshirt fairweather horn. Just thank god you have exceptional management.

I'll agree with Guitarsoup. I go to about 10 games a season and have been to every home playoff game from '06-'09.

For the most part, Toyota Center is a morgue. I've sat literally on the very top row in the second level (worst seat in the house where you're closer to the concession stand than the front rail) and I've also sat two rows behind the Rockets bench.

Again, Houston really does have one of the more dormant live atmospheres. The upper levels are much more lively. The lower level usually prices out a lot of the rowdy fans and those season ticket holders don't really go to weekday games. If it weren't for the Rowdies, the bottom level would be an absolutely embarrassment, so thank you JVG.

The last time I was really impressed with a Houston home crowd was Game 6 against the Lakers at home. That was because we had Ron Artest who to this day, is one of the 5 most exciting Houston Rockets ever. He riled up the home crowd better than anyone I've seen in a long time. He got the best out of Scola too. He was great.

Not only is Houston dying for a true superstar, but we're dying for a true personality on the court.

More to mazag's point, I agree when he says Houston fans in general aren't apathetic. The Texans have one of the best fan bases in the country. The Astros have a pretty good fan base considering the quality of the product. Of the three major teams, the Rockets have the worst base.

I remember the couple behind us telling my buddy and I to sit down when we were trying to come up with a 4th quarter stop against Utah in a playoff game. SMDH.

Let's not pretend I grew up in Boston or something. My dad was born in Houston, I've always had family in Houston and I have come here throughout my life and have lived here about a decade with my wife who has lived here over 20 years. I've been to at least one Astros game every year for the past 20 or so years.

Let's not pretend this team is going to be the 94 Rockets. It won't be. And the fans won't respond how they did in 94 either.
