'07 was still mostly Duncan's team. He averaged 22, 11.5, 3.3 assists, 3.1 blocks, and shot 52% from the field in the playoffs. TP just happened to be a nightmare matchup for the Cavs.

Once again, I defy anyone to name a better, more accomplished PG than Parker. Dude is unreal and proving it every night.

Can we label this one of the most awesome jinxes ever?

That final shot, slowed to 120 frames per sec. I'd recommend muting the music, though.

Pretty clutch.

Remember when Tony Parker was the best PG in the NBA? In the most important game in years for the Spurs, Parker was a -6 with 0 second half points.

ouch.

look at his stats for this series. He shrunk big time. he had big shots in game 1 & 6, but he wasn't big time throughout the series. he deserves the 2011 finals lebron treatment

He has the injury as an excuse, but I don't know why he wasn't playing in the most important possession at the end.

Injury or not, he didn't meet the potential that was there in front of him after the Memphis series. If he fights through the injury and makes a bigger impact on this series then he had it.

So kinda like Dirk in 03?

Pretty puzzling with the way he ended this series.

I still think he is the best pg in the league right now. He carried this team all season. Incredible player. Glad he is on my team.

Between the injury and being defended by Lebron it got pretty rough for TP, but I firmly believe he gave it all he had given the circumstances

Dirk's coach forced him to sit after injury in 03. Parker is closer to Dirk 06, 07 or 11. Parker was at the cusp of becoming a legend and fell short - a 2nd Finals MVP, 1st PG since Magic to lead his team as the franchise superstar to a title, 3rd best player in the league, etc. But he's not done.

If that makes you feel better. Parker has three rings as a starter and a Finals MVP. He has his legacy locked down. How many other PGs have that resume?

Aside from Magic I can't think of any....TP will go down as one of the best PG's of all time

A pulled hamstring is not a minor injury, especially as his entire game (and the spurs' entire offense) is built around his speed. He tried to fight through it, but a driving pg can only do so much when he's got a bum leg.

Parker has not won a title since ascending to the role of franchise player. If you're content to slot him there then that's fine, but it's odd coming in a thread where you all say he's the 3rd best player in the league. That's a title that comes with expectations.

His Finals MVP came when Duncan was the franchise player and the best player in the playoffs - Parker had the most points in a 4 game sweep against a horrible Cavs team that focused on stopping Duncan. Expectations change for the franchise player/best PG in the league/top 3 player in the league. Can't have it both ways.

Joe Dumars - Finals MVP and 2 rings
Jo Jo White - Finals MVP and 2 rings

Really? Did I proclaim that I thought he was the 3rd best player in the league? Can you show some evidence of that, or are you just making **** up again?

Joe Dumars was a 2.

Dennis Johnson is probably a fair comparison, only they were very different players. DJ was a better defender, and Parker was a better scorer/distributor.

Point Guards with MVPs/Finals MVPs+Multiple titles as the Franchise superstar player:
Bob Cousy

Isiah Thomas

Other Point guards with Finals MVPs+Multiple titles:
Dennis Johnson
Jo Jo White
Tony Parker

Parker missed his chance to move up.

Even if the Spurs won that, Parker wouldn't have moved ahead of Isiah, Magic or Cooz. He isn't as good as those guys were.
