It matters because we're knowledgeable basketball fans. I throw that out there because it assumes that the person i am speaking with is intelligent enough to understand the difference between darko and duncan's first rings, that the person i'm arguing with knows that duncan was the leagues best player, finals mvp, and the primary reason why the spurs won the championship.

If i have to explain that to you, then you probably aren't proficient enough when it comes to talking basketball for me to not think of this conversation as a total time waste.
