Woke up this morning still stunned how badly the Spurs played, especially on the Offensive end
They haven't played well at the the WHOLE series
Still don't know if the Spurs can win tmrw night
And I STILL don't know why Pop didn't play Marco and or Patty the WHOLE 4th quarter
Ugh

Rotations were all out of whack last night. Not sure what was going through his head. Over thinking it or something but they didn't make much sense. Hack a DJ failed miserably in the first half but he should have went to it in the fourth when we went like 8+ possessions without a stop.

Pop's use of Hack a DJ was really mind boggling. He does it when were up and rolling and then doesn't when we can't get a stop if our life depended on it.

Agreed
I think that game last night, the not playing Marco is something I just cannot comprehend. The dude was on FIRE. He and mills were the only ones making shots really, and for Marco to not play at all basically he whole fourth quarter, I will never understand. Makes absolutely no sense to me and never will.

I agree Marco deserved some more minutes and Pop overplayed Parker. At the end of the day though, the Spurs should have had enough to beat that team regardless of who was on the floor out of Tony,Green.Leonard,Diaw,Duncan, etc. Other then Diaw, I did not see those guys really try to dig down and win that game. Very lackadaisical effort which is very surprising. They obviously don't have the same drive they had last season but that effort last night was really concerning and upsetting to a certain degree. Oh well, at least we got 5.

To add to the Belli thing, he actually has done a passable job of defending Paul as well, so you can't even say it's a defensive issue. He needed to play more. Patty needed to play more.

And I totally agree that we missed a golden opportunity to foul DJ down the stretch when we couldn't buy a stop. Foul him twice and give up 1 or 2 instead of 4 on two possessions, and it's a different game.

Very frustrating loss.

Hard to get on Kawhi too much. Guy probably had his worst game of his career last night but the guy was definitely due for a bad game. Not sure I can remember the last game where he had virtually no impact. Struggled offensively in game 5 but he still had a major presence. Last night was simply just a bad game from him. Have no doubt he will bounce back though.

I'm the first one to criticize Beli for his D (or lackthereof) but he actually has done a decent job fighting through screens this series. Not like Danny was making any sort of impact defensively and in fact, he has been particularly bad at getting through screens on guys like Reddick, etc.

I do think Beli should have gotten more minutes but any other game and I would have been screaming for Danny to be in the game so hard to get on Pop for this one too much for me. More upset with the effort from guys like Danny, Kawhi, Tony, Splitter, etc. than I am with Pop. Both were at fault though.

Unfortunately, we have seen that lack of urgency all year. Our un-spur like failure to finish close games during the reg season, losing very urgent games like to the Cans at the end of the year and games 4 and 6 of this series at home, getting beat for the loose balls and for offensive rebounds on FTs, bad turnovers, looking almost scared to shoot or make a play at times.

By the way, Leonard is still amazingly streaky. He can be a top 5 player on any give night, but can be a complete nonfactor the next.

Green doesn't deserve more than 6-7 million a year and even that might be high. He has plateaued and is about as good as he will ever be. He is an average nba starter that can get hot from outside. Parker is on the downhill side of his career and I'm not sure he is in the top half of NBA point guards anymore.

What's odd is it is the starters that are failing (outside of Timmy). If it wasn't for our bench this series would already be over.

i'm exhausted today. great game, but made for a long drive back to austin last night after the loss.

i really don't feel good about game 7. Fortunately/unfortunately, I won't be able to watch. At least if we lose a heart breaker, I'll just be a little bummed and not ride the emotional roller coaster. If we win, I'll be happy and get to watch more playoff basketball.

I think the hardest part if we don't get past the Clippers is knowing this might finally be the beginning end of an era. I don't see how Manu doesn't retire. He's given everything and there's nothing left in the tank. Last year really made it ok if they don't go further this year.

Offensively there's some truth to this but I can't remember another game (other than last night) where he had minimal if any impact on the game defensively or on the glass. He was a non-factor last night though, that's for sure. He's a big time player though, no doubt in my mind he will have a big game 7. Last guy I am worried about tbh.

Our offense was bad, but the lack of stops is what killed us last night. You can't have guys just score at will when you're not clicking on offense. That and KL being a black hole offensively and DG STILL not making much of an impact at all. Manu having a bad Manu game also did not help.

These moving screens are ridiculous. And to the poster who said adapt - you can't, that's why it's so ridiculous they won't call them. You can't fight over the screen because the screener is pushing you into Paul, so he gets the call, and you can't go under because Paul or Crawford or Reddick obviously are good enough shooters to nail an open jumper.

If the refs won't call moving screens on LAC, but will on SA, then that's a big problem. Fine if they won't call them, but don't call them both ****ing ways so both teams are on level playing field. I'm also tired of Paul getting the call if he's breathed on, but our ball handlers getting hit and nothing. I get he is CP3, but damn, is it so hard to call a game consistently both ways?

In a few months the overall body of work will make it better, but losing to the Clips right now would suck real bad. I want to finally play the rockets in the playoffs and would love an unprecedented run from the 6 seed to a championship to solidify the dynasty and finally achieve the back to back.

I'm telling you, that Cans game was when this whole thing became exponentially tougher. We blew a ton of momentum that night.

We are a jump shooting team now, so we need to put our best jump shooters on the floor. It really is that simple.

Pop has come to the reality regarding Manu and it shows with his minutes being limited but he is really dropping the ball regarding the Tony/Patty situation. Not like anyone is asking for Patty to play 40 minutes but he's gotta play more than 16MPG. Tony and Pattys minutes should be near even this series.

Danny Green is definitely playing himself out of contract money this series. Why did Pop switch him and Kawhi? I thought Danny did the best against Paul and Reddick was nonexistent with Kawhi on him.

The Clips are a highly efficient scoring team and have been all year. If you are hoping the refs start fouling out the Clips bigs on moving screens in game 7 on the road with CP3 facilitating then you are nuts.

We are just going to have to out score them. We can't have stretches like we did at the end of the 2nd where we go ice cold. We can't have offensive liabilities like Parker and Green (most this series) on the floor together. The Clips have griffin and paul and then a couple streaky scorers in redick and Crawford. The Spurs offense of last year and in a couple games this series can easily outscore them. Get shooters on the floor because regardless of who you put on Paul or Griffin in the pick and role they will get open shots. You just have to live with it. Make the Clips hit jumpers all game (take away Redick and Crawford) and outscore them on the other end. Running them ragged with our depth would help with tired legs in the 4th Qtr of a game 7 as well. Get rid of the hack a Jordan, except on an isolated possession or two. Definitely don't use that strategy in the 1st half.

Pop needs to loosen this team up. They looked uptight and nervous from the get go. That whole talk about 'these are the games you regret' apparently went the wrong way. The clips were looking to be put down last night and we blew it.

The only upside here is that the clippers aren't experienced here. They may very well come out and lay another egg. I really don't know what to expect.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Where did I say I want them foul them out? Nowhere. But the call has to be made once or twice, or they have to let SA get away with it too. Neither of which has happened in 1 game this series. The refs show they are willing to call it and, most likely, Blake may set a few more legal screens.

It is just not going to happen. This is like when we played OKC and we wanted the calls to not always favor Harden, Westbrook and Durant.

You can hope all you want, but this is just something we are going to have to overcome. That 15 foot jumper will be there in game 7 for Paul and Griffin just as it has all series.

Several Notes:

1. The moving screens suck. Heres how you adapt...STOP PICKING UP PAUL AT HALF COURT. They bring the double screen out when were guarding paul 15' from the three point line. Start flopping and flailing your arms in the air when you are trying to fight through the double. Exaggerate them pushing you, or holding you.

2. HackaJordan. This should only be used when we are up and they are on a quick run. Instead of burning a timeout to slow the team back down, foul Jordan with someone who has less than 2 fouls. Don't EVER use it in the first half with someone who already has 2 fouls.

3. The loss of Davis just isn't that big of a deal. He played 10 minutes last night. He had 5 fouls, 2 points, 2 turnovers, and 3 boards. The guy is a non factor. Putting in Hawes just isn't going to be much of a downgrade if its for 10 minutes of play. NOW, if you an get a big in foul trouble early, then maybe it plays into effect.

4. Kawhi was bad on BOTH ends of the floor last night. It happens. He isn't a superstar yet and he will still have games where he isn't a factor. He didn't even play good defensively. Im glad he stayed aggressive though and hopefully it didn't kill his confidence. If he has another night like last night, the Spurs can't win.

5. I thought and still think this series is over...but I woke up this morning feeling very motivated and focused on a game 7. Im hyped and angry. I F'ing HATE everything the Clippers team is about. Barnes is a F'ing **** stain on the NBA. I cringe every time they show Pauls f'ed up face when he's crying about a foul, which is every time up the court. I HATE seeing Doc Rivers "Im shocked" face after every single call. His team mimics his own childish reactions and they are a bunch of bit**es. I swear JJ Reddick wears make up. No way a guy stays put together that well during a game. F you JJ.. why can't you be a selfish child like the rest of your teammates instead a normal good guy.

We've got to play fast. We have to hit our 3s. We have to bang it inside and let Duncan work his old man moves to draw fouls on their bigs. When Duncan is doing that, they are biting down from the 3 pt line and its going to lead to good looks.

Also, The Clippers are an offensive team. What can't happen is you score under 100 against them. We have to score 105 or more if we are going to beat them I think.

A lot of coaches seem to go with their lineups that "got them there" and have been good together in the past. However, I always thought that Pop wasn't like that as much

That's true. If I remember correctly he forgot to show up for the first two games of the finals last year before completely taking over and earning mvp honors.

Hope he can get us out of this series.

I don't think LA can beat them two games in a row, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the Spurs, the way they have played lately.

Yea. Duncan will show up as will Diaw and Mills (as long as Pop gives him the minutes). If Leonard shows up that should be enough.

That said, we have to be at full strength and playing well to beat Golden State and we aren't right now. Parker and Splitter are hobbled. Green is in a huge slump. Manu seems to be done once and for all. That's a lot of hits to absorb. Honestly, the way we're playing right now, GS would beat us in 5.

This series would have already been won by the Spurs if Patty's and Tony's minutes were reversed. It's obvious they should be by both the stats and the eye test. It will be terrible if it costs ya'll the series. I really want to see ya'll play Golden State.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with you for the most part. However.

1. There's no solution when Griffin can literally crash into Danny Green so hard he gets knocked down and skids across halfcourt. Griffin laid Danny out twice with no call. Even when Griffin "set" screens, he was sliding out as the defender tried to go over. Twice we got called for fouls when Griffin slid out on the screen and knocked our defender into the offensive player. Danny was respectfully letting the ref (who is standing ten feet away from all this looking right at it) know it was happening, plus it was super obvious even on tv. The refs made a conscious decision not to call moving screens against the Clippers. In that situation, flopping just takes you even farther out of the play. If there is a defensive solution, it is to switch everything and never try to go over a screen. That may be an option if the Clippers play a lot of small ball (so that we can too) and we can judiciously mix in some hack-a-DJ.

3. Those ten minutes are the only rest Griffin and DeAndre get. It's a bigger deal than you think. Davis is a decent defender and a danger to take a charge at any time. Hawes is a turnstile who has also sucked on offense this year.

The problem is Patty is super effective when he plays like 20 minutes and gets really ineffective if he plays too many minutes.

But when you have a guy hitting 58% of their threes over 6 games, you need to have him shooting 15 threes a game.

Danny Green has taken the most threes and he is hitting 27%. Patty+Marco are 28/53 from three. They need more looks in game 7.
