I liked Bill Simmons older idea about a playoff berth tournament.

Basically, seeds 1-6 in the East and West are determined as usual BUT there's a single elimination tournament where all other teams compete for seeds 7 & 8. This basically incentivizes every team to keep trying hard, as no matter what happens, you can still lock up a playoff seed. And it incentivizes the good teams to continue to win because they can all take like a 2 week 'bye' during the tourney.

Plus, it would make the NCAA tournament look like child's play. Can y'all imagine a mini-NBA version of that?! It'd be the best sporting event on TV.

That would work.

Something needs to change tho. I'm sick of teams from the east with .500 records making it while teams from the West with nearly 50 wins don't.

I'd be for getting rid of conferences and everyone just playing each other ala the Premier League.

Jones waive isn't surprising. He just doesn't have a position. That said, if he uses international or g league to get his 3s consistently above 35%, and can develop into a 3 - 4 position defender, he's got a shot to be pj tucker like.

And, I like Farrell but he's not Jason Terry, who I think Cuban and Donnie have a pipe dream of him becoming.
I think he can stick around the league for a bit if he can improve his shooting even just a little. Teams these days like guys that are his combination of size and athleticism because they can switch on defense easily and guard almost anyone on the court. He can also rebound and score around the basket well. Ten years ago he would have had no shot in the league because he's clearly not a three or a four, and doesn't have a specialty. Athletic tweeners have become more useful with the current style of play, though.

Surprise, surprise. You let a RFA become a UFA for literally no reason and suddenly you lose all leverage. Funny how that works. Total bonehead move by the Mavericks if they actually wanted to sign him

Is it really a big deal?

They still have barrera, they just got doncic and Brunson.

This team always seems to have way too many guards anyway.

So he spurned the Mavericks for literally the same amount of money ($6.2M to $5.3M). Once you look at the slate of games, living expenses, and taxes:

1) 50% are homes games with CA state taxes
2) Another 20% or so are Golden State, Lakers, and Clippers which will have state taxes
3) Oh and your cost of living is higher.

Good financial advice Yogi. Keep listening to your peeps.

If I had to bet, I would say he is going to find out that he owes Rick Carlisle a lot this year.

Dumb to risk him going. Worse to think that SAC deal was worth taking.

The upside is one less ballhandling alternative should increase fhe pressure to keep DSJ or Doncic on the floor as much as possible.

The a Kings deal is fully guaranteed, but the 2nd year of the Mavs deal was not. Hard to fault the guy for taking the money.

^this. The Mavs only offered Yogi a 1 yr guarantee. The King's deal is significantly better.

We did the first month he was on the team, which ended up being good through the end of this past season. So technically yeah, he did get a multi-year deal mid-season....but it was done last season

I still don't get the logic of drafting Brunson when you could just keep Yogi. Should have taken the big Mitchell who went to NYK. Hope Brunson proves me wrong, just not a fan of that pick.

Yep. It was a no brainer for yogi. More money and both years guaranteed. Of course, going to the Kings could tank his career but he's gotta take the extra money. Plus, I think he rightfully felt Brunson would be taking a lot of his minutes. If I'm yogi and I see the Mavs spend an early 2nd round draft pick on a pg and I get offered more money and more guaranteed years somewhere else, I'm leaving.

Agree with this too. I feel like we are hoping Brunson turns out to be what we already had for cheap with yogi. I know he could turn out to be a little better, but he's projected to be a decent backup pg. I wanted to draft Mitchell Robinson as well.

Yogi could be fun to watch, but I don't see this hurting the team in the long (or short) term. DSJ and Luka should be handling the ball most of the time.

When you get into the more recent years, it looks like Timothy McVeigh was used as the model. Especially 2014.

And in most of them, Dirk had some pretty rockin guns and shoulders for a guy that on BAD Radio said he couldn't bench 130 lbs.
