I want to be super excited for this season and give Dirk one last post-season shot, but the West is so stacked it's ridiculous. Even if you guaranteed me that Doncic played as good as Simmons or Tatum as a rookie, I don't think we make playoffs.

The ONLY playoff team that is arguably getting worse are the Spurs - but they didn't even play Kawhi last year and still got in. If they trade him for anything, they might actually technically be better. Then you have Denver that missed the cut by 1 game, you have the Lakers that now have LeBron (5-8 seed) and maybe Kawhi (top 3 seed), and you have Memphis who should have their 2 stars healthy again along with a new top 4 pick. That only leaves 3 other teams in the entire conference (Kings, Phx, Clips all in that "you don't know when their young core will click and be scary" phase). If Deandre plays really well in our system and Luka and Dennis play as good as you hope their ceiling is at their age, I still think we're just barely in that Denver/Minnesota tier.

The league really needs to move playoffs into an overall record seeding than East/West, there are going to be 10 seeds in the west that could make 4 or 5 in the east. It's just silly at this point.

I believe Dirk is a useful player and a luxury to have at very minimal cost. Notice Rick doesn't really even talk about Dirk moving forward. The Mavs started the rebuild a couple seasons to late and its still costing them.I love the direction but please no more FA ov 28 yo. Not interesting in busting ass to make he 8th seed next year

Why not? We aren't finishing with a top 5 pick regardless so we will be playing for nothing.
I want to see dsj and doncic make the playoffs. They are the future so get them as many pieces as possible to make a run. They need to learn the culture of winning.

Personally, I think Harrison Barnes is a bad No. 1 option, a serviceable No. 2, and a pretty damned good No. 3. If you could flex him to be a "stretch big" PF in a small lineup to give Dirk some rest, that pretty good too since you still have DJ to play the rim. I wish there was a way to get Julius Randle as well, but I dont think there is.

Dirk is def not gonna be playing starter's minutes (whether he technically starts or not). I bet he falls somewhere between 15-19min/game.

But I agree with your eval of Barnes. He's a good dude, but just simply isn't equipped to be the primary scorer. He's a natural Small Forward and i think he CAN play the 4, but it's not ideal. (That's why I was really hoping the Mavs could trade for Deandre with Wes and then acquire guys like Favors or Gordon, who could start in the 4 position and allow Barnes to move back to his natural role as a 3).

Yeah, I think Dirk's sub 20 mins this season too.

I'll tell you this much, I don't think Doncic/DJ is an A+ off season "league-wide" by any stretch, but it's definitely an A+ if you're grading on a Mavericks curve.

Soup, in your basketball expert opinion, Randle to the Mavs a good idea?

Gonna use him and Dre?

Besides, Dallas is out of money.

If Dallas could have traded Wes for Dre and then gotten a steal on Randle plus a solid wing, that would have been a great haul. But I think Dallas is shooting for an 5-8 seed and keeping the powder dry for a FA signing next summer.

Just lost Seth Curry to Portland, 2yr/$5MM deal. The longer this FA goes on, the more annoyed I am with Cuban. There are so many cheap contracts on good young players getting handed out, and we burn our entire cap space on Deandre. At best so we can try to grind out a playoff spot with 10 other competent teams.

Dallas should have tried to get Randle for $8.5mm rather than DeAndre for $24.

Deandre is a better fit for this team than Randle. The pick and roll game with him and Doncic/ DSJ is going to be fun to watch.

Actually, nevermind. NBA isn't worth wasting time on now that Cousins is on the Warriors for a ****ing MLE. Can't wait for football season

It doesn't matter anyways. Boogie to the Warriors. The NBA is such a joke. These "super" teams are killing the league.

Lol the Warriors adding Boogie NOW makes them the clear favorite?

Dude is a cancer and is coming off the worst injury any athlete can have. They'll be lucky to get him at 70% of he was....which is still 100% grade A-loser.

Either way, doesn't affect the Mavs. Next year is all about developing Luka and DSJ.

The dude can take as much time off as he wants. Let's not act like Boogie didn't average 25 and 13 last season. Him on that roster is absurd.

Go ahead and google "Achilles + NBA + all star"...and see how many people suffer that injury and rebound to their former selves. It doesn't happen. And Boogie isn't a guy who will 'do whatever it takes' in the rehab facility.

People are WAY overreacting to this. He's more likely to miss all of next season than to return to even 70% of what he was before the injury.

I wouldn't want Boogie anywhere near my team for any price. The red flags are everywhere...and that's before the devastating injury.

GS took a flier. Good for them. The odds of it paying are suuuuuuuuuuuuper slim.

I don't need a google search to tell me what I already know. You don't have to be a condescending ******* to debate an opinion. My point is The Warriors can afford to take that gamble. He can pretty much take off all season to rehab it and be ready for the playoffs. Sounds like wishful thinking on your part to think one player is going to tear apart a locker room that has been together for years and has won multiple championships already.

Pump your brakes there man, wasn't being condescening. Tone is hard to convey on text so apologies if thats how it came off.

I'm just pushing back on this whole "woe is the nba, how can Silver allow this' talk. It changes nothing, imo.
