Mitch is the coach. It's hit job to make adjustments and tell his players to stop jacking up 3's and line Wemby up ANYWHERE inside the arc on offense.
Instead, he just stood over there with his arms crossed and cried to the refs all game. He's in way over his head.

Stinker of a game. Would have liked to see Julian (instead of KJ) in more of the 4th quarter...without his offensive rebounds in the last couple of minutes we dont have a chance at that last possession. I dont blame him for missing it. I blame the "paint is lava" gameplan for most of the game. Fox does better downhill than just jacking up 3s and middies.

being young is no longer an excuse. this team has to quit the 2nd half stretch where the lose focus especially on the defensive end. if they make shots, they make shots, but the defensive intensity has to be there all night
Go for the tie at home, win on the road. Would have loved to see Harpwr driving to the tim to tie with wemby following a potential miss for a putback

The only one who was affected by lack of experience was Mitch. In fact, the worst player on the floor tonight was Fox, by far. Our rookie was MVP of the game.
If wemby just hits a few of his threes which he usually does, it changes the whole game.
Also gotta find a way to keep Castle out of foul trouble. He's in this predicament way too often.

It matters because they have to play him. They had an extra defender to keep us from driving to the basket, because Wemby was still trying to get down the court.

Pulling Wemby out to get Gobert out opened up the paint for Castle, Harper, Fox, and Keldon. If we don't pull Gobert out, they are going to completely smother our drivers.
Going right at Rudy in the paint is a losing proposition. They have the advantage in size and tonight they were allowed to do anything they wanted to us physically.
And we overcome all that if Wemby and Fox don't go 0-12 on open threes.
Pulling Gobert and Randle is the right move. They have the size on us, so we have to spread them out. Our gameplan was right.
You see this all the time. The team coming out of a hard fought series stealing game 1 vs a team that coasted through the first round. Not time to panic yet.

That's such bull****, you don't know that and they obviously called it that way because they didn't want Minn to be able to set their defense and add Gobert to make it even harder. That's such bull****, you don't know that and they obviously called it that way because they didn't want Minn to be able to set their defense and add Gobert to make it even harder. They stood there for almost 2 full seconds after they got the rebound. Wemby was barely to midcourt by the time Julien was shooting the ball. That allowed Randle and McDaniels to camp the paint and keep us from driving for the tie. So, the only shot we had was a last second three.
If Mitch can't draw up a better play than that then he doesn't need to be coaching.

I'm not panicking about how our players played. Fox isn't going to be this cold from everywhere, and Wemby isn't going to be this cold from behind the arc all series.
However, we went on long stretches of ISO ball and jacking up 3's. Our ball movement was non-existent. We didn't play Spurs basketball, at all, and that's a breakdown from coaching. That's what worries me the most. If we don't play our game then we lose this series in 4 or 5.

No, and that was only 'wide open' because of a pump fake. If McDaniels isn't lazy with help defense then it would have been highly contested.
We can argue about that play all night, but that game was lost when we insisted on going ISO and jacking up 3's all night.
You're right, I'm convinced. Fire Mitch immediately, that'll win us the series and the championship this year. Clearly the whole coaching staff needs to go, they're all tainted. Maybe Doc Rivers could take over. What's Bob Hill up to these days?
Ok, how about this, if Wemby had called timeout, which he obviously could have, do you think we are going to get a cleaner look than an open three when Minnesota now has the opportunity to sub in their best defenders and set up a defense? We would have 5-6 seconds left and they get to put in a 4x DPOY that manhandled the best offensive player in the league in the 1st round.
This is something MANY teams do when the other team doesn't have in their best defenders. And it paid off in the sense that Minnesota was caught off guard and we got a clean look. That's what we wanted. Julian just didn't bury it.
