So are they going to decline and give Kenrich a longterm deal? B/c he is a guy I absolutely want on the Spurs. My only two real targets in free agency would be Kenrich and Dean Wade.

Why not Collins? Do you think Wade's injury history is a concern? It seems like he has had some bad luck spraining his ankle by stepping on a ball boy, poked in the eye, etc.. some past knee, shoulder ankle issues.

I feel like Wades injuries are not as concerning as Steven Adam's were last year.

I think Collins is a empty stat bad team guy. Defensively, he really only works as a small ball weakside defender, and we really need a tough perimeter defender. I don't think he has that juice and like Rui, he gets lost in rotations.

Collins has been on the market for basically 3 years and has been traded twice - each time just for a single 2nd round pick. That tells me no teams really want him.

Wade seems to consistently have minor injuries, but he is a depth piece.

The other thing is I expect Rui and Collins to demand a full 4y MLE. I really don't want to do more than a year or two on these guys. I dont see either as a long term solution on the team. Wade, Tobias, Kenrich are all shorter term players that fill the gap as needed.

Interesting.

Phoenix now does not control any of their next 7 first round picks except 2032, which is frozen.

Grayson and ONeale both have 2 years left. Bridges has an ending contract. Saves the Suns 6.2M.

In June 2007, Mike Conley was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies. (Durant, Jeff Green, and Horford also drafted)
In July 2007, Cameron Boozer, the Grizzlies #1 pick, was born.

Other NBA players older than Boozer: LBJ, Kyle Lowry, and I'm not sure who else.

That's kind of wild. He wasn't in their rotation after the trade at all. Wonder if he is needed for trade salary.

I was just thinking what the Rockets needed was a non shooting defensive specialist

That would make AD the youngest of that big four. The Father Time team.they still wouldn't be able to compete with SA or OKC, but probably one of the top five teams in the West

Seems like they tried (although I'm not sure how hard) to negotiate a team-friendly deal and Dort/Rich Paul aren't interested. I think picking up the option is just buying time to trade him.

I think it's for the best for both parties to go their separate ways.

Dort doesn't fit into the MLE so they have to send to a team with cap space (Lakers, Bulls) or trade exception

Teams with trade exceptions currently (doesn't include the new Charlotte one)

Bulls
Dallas
Boston
Memphis

I would assume they already have a landing spot for him. I think if Boston makes a deal with Brown, sending him there for the Simons extension makes sense.

But there are only a handful of teams that could do it. And I am not sure Memphis wants/needs him, Dallas is already too expensive, and Chicago has bigger fish to fry. Surely they wouldn't send Dort to the Lakers.

So Dort to the Celtics is my guess.

That's probably right. I've been debating with myself how much better a Lakers offer would need to be to justify trading him there instead of to the east or a non-contender. It sounds like the Lakers are very interested.

Good deal which helps out the heat with the aprons

Might be enough to keep Norm Powell which they definitely need to do. That also keeps Powell away from Detroit

Smart is supposedly going to the Rockets and the Lakers are trying to bring Kessler from Utah. Kessler would be an upgrade but Dort instead of smart is a minor upgrade I guess. They can do that and keep Rui and stay healthy. Maybe that's a decent team, but I don't think they're challenging Oklahoma City or San Antonio

I agree. There's a big part of me that thinks if the Lakers are offering the best return, just deal him there. He's not the difference between them competing with OKC/SA or not.

Even though he's declined as a defender and is a poor/streaky 3-point shooter with negative creation skills, one thing Lu can help the Lakers with alot is the day-in, day-out mentality/toughness that they seem to lack. It's not nothing. I can see why the Lakers would be interested.

Kinda reminds me of Martin Maldonado in 2022-23 for the Astros.

Ed Davis also indicted. He was teammates with Beasley on the T'Wolves, making over $47 mm in his NBA career.

Ed Davis played for the following teams (agent was Rob Pelinka):

Toronto Raptors
Memphis Grizzlies
Los Angeles Lakers
Portland Trail Blazers
Brooklyn Nets
Utah Jazz
Minnesota Timberwolves
Cleveland Cavaliers
Mets de Guaynabo (Puerto Rico)
Xinjiang Flying Tigers (China)
Cangrejeros de Santurce (P.R.)

He played 121 minutes last year. Maybe a Clippers sponsor offered him a no show sponsorship to not sign with the Clippers.

It's been almost 4-weeks since Adam Silver since the league has to "wrap it up", but I don't see how Kawhi can be traded or how the Clippers know what parameters they can do deals on, if any.

Just happy they didn't have to deal a 1st round pick to get off his salary. Without knowing all the details, the return is similar to the Trae deal.

I expect there to be spin off deals from this, or a third team. Not sure Grant is staying in Memphis.

Yeah, except the Trae deal had the expiring contract of CJ and then the longer contract of Kispert. I think Jerami is bad money, but at least not a bad person. And Memphis is probably fine with the bad money, because they dont have any max players anymore and Jerami's shooting will be useful.

We'll see what else happens. I think Portland also has more deals involved.

PGs on the Portland roster, as of Ja deal. Could see one going to the Celtics.
