There isn't much desirable about a sub 2.0 oWAR over a full season. That's platoon/bench level production.

To have a 1.5 overall WAR in 2013 as Josh did, having played full time, is just plain bad.

They'll need more than that. So far, so good.

The point was in reference to the outfield production we got in the '10/'11/'12 years.

Guerrero, Borbon, Cruz (twice), Murphy and Gentry all oWAR's of 1.8 or less in years the Rangers made the World Series or were near the top of the league for most of the season.

It's about not having a black hole of offensive production from one of your outifield positions. Yes DeShields has done well, but in late April I don't think many people were thinking he was likely to be a significantly productive offensive piece.

Gentry never had more than 269 plate appearances in a season and Guerrero hardly stepped foot in the outfield.

In any event, it worked back then because you had one guy or another, or two, out there hitting like an All-Star.

This current team has Fielder, and you expect Beltre to come around at some point, but it can't take Josh Hamilton of Anaheim days. That just won't do.

We don't need In-his-prime Josh but the team isn't going to contend with another hole in the lineup and that's what he was in Anaheim.

But I understand what you're saying.

The post was never about what production was needed out of Josh to compete, it was about how even at a shell of his former self he would still be one of the better hitters in the Rangers lineup 2014/2015.

hopefully he'll keep it up.

I still cant' bring myself to like the guy, but I want as much as we can get out of him.

Hopefully the other shoe won't drop anytime soon.

C'mon! He's in DFW. A place where Michael Irvin, Pacman Jones, Nate Newton, Dez Bryant, JJ Hardy have all thrived. Hamilton is where he belongs.

What does the former Padres/Orioles shortstop have to do with any of this?
