Sam Houston commit apparently

The hypocracy on this site is hilarious.. "This isn't the right place to judge". Gimme a break. If this was a boy, or a HS football player being dirty everyone here would be all over it.. But since it's a girl people want to act like we shouldn't judge.

In the eyes of our legal system she is an adult. If that was a baseball game it most certainly would have started a fight.

If it happened once it could have been chalked up as a coincidence and not on purpose, but the fact it happened twice shows clear malice and intent.

Side Note.. I remember when the Harrison twins (Kentucky basketball players) were sophomores in HS people ripped them to shreds on this board when they both got ejected from a game for getting into it with an official, and then ultimately transferred schools... So don't gimme any BS about "public shaming" HS kids..

When I saw the second runner hop up, start to get in the catcher's face and then immediately back off when the catcher waved her off, I couldn't help but think of that scene in Friday with Smokey and Deebo - "I got mind control over Deebo. How about for not trucking her ass since she's in the baseline without the ball and no play imminent... The runner has a right to the baseline and base, the catcher does not, unless she's making a play... there's obviously no play on either of those... if not the first time, she should have at least been on her ass the second time

I don't think you can truck the catcher in high school softball.

You can't lower your shoulder in high school or college... but then again, neither can the catcher and she did it twice...

first one doesnt look all that bad in real time. It just looked like she prepped for the hit and swung that arm with the contact.

The second one, looked more like the catcher initiated the contact.

Dont think either was a case of throwing elbows, but certainly shoulder checks.

Runners both returned and touched home plate.

I don't know the mechanics of softball umpires but it looks like the plate umpire is moving up the line for a play at third. In HS baseball mechanics with runners on 2nd and 3rd I'm telling everyone I'm staying at the plate. (if I'm the plate umpire)

There is no baseline for the catcher to be standing in. The baseline is established when an attempt is being made on a runner.

So what should be the call, per the rules?

It's not obstruction because the catcher is not preventing the runner from reaching the plate. It is more than a baseball play because two runners wind up on their butt trying to reach the plate.

If I were the plate umpire in this case I would have ejected the catcher for malicous contact, as well as protecting her from retaliation, which then puts more players in jeopardy for injury, or ejections. And if you are ejected from a HS playoff game you have to sit the next game.

The second time I would have place a cleat in her calf when I got up and touched the plate.

Mike Richardson would sure love a second chance. I'm aure have of you were calling for his head when he room a few cheap shots at WVU players on the sideline of the bowl game. He's maybe 2 or 3 years older than this girl..

But he was sure vilified on the Internet ans was asked to leave the football program. Sure he was considered a "coach" but he's still only a student. An undergrad. That player has a scholarship to a Division 1 school that Texas A&M normally faces..

Would you want her on the Aggie roster with plays like that.. It's uncalled for, dangerous, and has zero place on the field.

Depends on the sport, the league, the school district, and the school.

There's no such rule in UIL football or basketball. There is in TAPPS football (and probably other sports), but for any game, not just playoffs. School districts and schools have their own rules, but they vary.

It was State Championship game. The first run made hit made it 4-3 and second hit made it 4-5 so it would have been silly to retaliate if you are the black team. As far as did the runner initiate contact? Not many people trying to hit someone fall over backwards. Looks like she was trying to shimmy around the catcher and get to the plate as quick as possible...then got her lights knocked out.

I watched it again and the umpire is standing right there watching this go down. He had to have said something right?

I wonder what the catcher said when she waved the glove at the second girl.

you realize the coaches were watching the play and not the runner cross the plate right ?

The third base coach was looking right at it on the second hit. She kinda flinches and then points at the plate, then claps. But the video doesn't show any of the aftermath or if there was a conversation. Maybe there was. I haven't read anything about it. Just watched the clip.

At the very end of the clip it looks like 3rd base coach is going to check on her girl and ask the UMP if he is blind or WTF he is going to do about it. I probably would have flipped and gotten ejected if that happened to my kid.

Had some fb friends at the game claiming it was a bunch of "wtf" looks at each other.

You really have to try to not see a person [reverse-flying-mcgee] to the ground at full speed.


Go look at her fb profile. They have started a "I support #8 Lady Jay" profile pic thing. I'm not sure why you would defend her as it was not even mildly within the rules.

It'd probably be in her and her "supporters" best interest to keep a low profile. They are just going to add to the circus.

The second play which came on a latter hit the catcher would have been alert to the runner trying to do the same thing! She did the right thing and I admire her toughness!

I'm a former catcher too and the chicken wing was questionable at the very least.

Regardless of all else - the runner in no way attempting to run the catcher over. It is not possible to fall that way without your weight back within reason.

I think there was a dirty play by the first runner and possibly the catcher on the second play. The one with the highest risk of injury is the catcher on both plays.

That's a shame! She'll play somewhere. Before you pass judgement keep in mind we don't know what May have transpired before these two plays. She may have been trucked a few times earlier in this game. A catcher finally gets enough of that crap and gets defensive.

I can see your point on the second play but not the first. Runner clearly lowered the shoulder to take her out! There was no play at the plate for BOTH players not just the catcher! I agree with you on the second play.

Ok, I'll disagree with her losing a scholarship. That is over the top. That can't be true right? Kicking her out of the game is the worst punishment I'd say is needed for what I saw in that clip.
