Hey guys,

I've always wanted to have a dynasty baseball league, set up similar to how the actual teams are run.

Here is the way I plan on having it setup.

Dynasty rules. You can keep whoever you want on your team for as long as you want. Dealing with a salary cap and rules is more confusing than it needs to be. If you take Mike Trout with your first pick, he's yours until he retires or you are willing to drop him. Each year, we will "re-draft" based on the reverse order of the standings from the previous year, and you will draft to your open spots. The idea here is to get some investment into the players to enjoy it a little more. Teams in last place might have some incentive to start picking up young players in the hope that they turn into something for next year, and trades can be made with "this year" and "future" taken into consideration. I'm not necessarily against instituting a couple rules to try and even out the playing field in case one team gets to be too strong. (something like : you can keep 25 players, but each year you keep someone, he counts as one extra person. - so if you kept Mike Trout after year 2, he now counts as 2, .... so on and so on.)

- Scoring- 11 categories, winner of more categories gets the "head to head" win for the week.
- Playoffs at the end of the year - top 6 teams

Roster -
C
1B
2B
3B
SS
OF
OF
OF
UTIL (DH)
5 BN (only hitters)

5 SPs
6 RPs

2 DL spots
2 NA spots- for minor league players.

The idea is to create a 25 man roster similar to the Major League teams. The bench players being only hitters makes it more realistic to real life.

Let me know your thoughts and if you would be interested. April 3rd is opening day, so in theory, we need to draft in the next week or so.

Oh, and your team name should be a real city with a nickname.

Alberquerque Blue Meth
Chicago Deep Dish Pizza's
Sugar Land Skeeters
Arkansas Kissing Sisters
.... etc.
I really like how it was originally pitched by Wrec86. Simple and fun.

Darn. Would love to join, but looks like I'm late to the party. Let me know if anybody backs out. jpick213 at gmail

Agree. The more you trick up the keeper rules the less fun it becomes IMO. If you want to manage towards parity the rules suggested above accomplishes that without forcing you to drop two premium players.

I hate the idea of losing that many roster spots to keep a player. Takes the value of Correa down. Should do something like keep 10 players +2 minor leaguers, If you want to keep 11, you lose your first round draft pick. Keep 12, 2nd round draft pick, etc.

I think the commish should ultimately make the decision based on how he envisions his league. We're all just piggybacking on his idea.

So are we doing $10? I'm a big fan of a buy-in because it gives an incentive to keep up with your team. I tried a league via Texags once that ended up with only 2 other guys paying attention by the end of the year.

$10 doesn't change much. I'd be a fan of not doing any money the first year to work out the kinks.

I am down for $ or not. 10-20 bucks isn't going to keep people involved. I've seen leagues for 100s and people still don't manage their team fully.

I will come up with a propsal and post it here on this thread.

My main priorities will be to keep it simple and to allow players to keep their favorite players year after year, but it may come at a cost to the rest of your roster.

First year dues will be about $10, which will cover the cost of a very nice traveling trophy. Any excess will go to the winner of the league.

Each year after that, we will determine a cost ($20-50?) and go from there. Definitely agree that the first year will work out the kinks a little bit.

Sounds good... Please take into mind my proposal for keeping people. I feel like you could keep enough players to keep your studs and a project player or two...But not so much that it would keep the draft interesting.

Here is my proposal on keepers/ dynasty.

- Each player is currently "valued" at $1. (Not actual money)
- Every consecutive year he is kept, another $1 is added to his value. (So if you keep Mike Trout next spring, it costs you $1. The next year $2, the next year $3, etc)
- if a player is traded, he retains his value. So if Trout was traded in year 3, the new team would have to spend $3 to keep him- his value is not reset)
- if a player is dropped and picked up on waivers, he retains his value.
- if a player is dropped and makes it through waivers, and is picked up as a free agent, his value is reset to $1

Year 1- we will have $18 at the end of the year to keep players
Year 2 - I will increase the $$ amount (to $22 as an example) and keep inflating it year after year to account for the rising cost of the players. We will determine it before the draft of each year, so we are all on the same playing field.

I am raising the number of "n/a" spots from 2 to 5. This will allow us to keep a more robust "minor league" system and have young players we want to see develop. They will also count towards the keeper $$s.

End result, you will be able to keep the Trouts and Correas of the world for a decade of you want to, but you'll have to sacrifice elsewhere. By the time they cost you $10 to keep, your total $$ amount may be $50.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Any chance we can up the 45 seconds per pick a tad and especially since we're looking at 70 minor league players?

Maybe I misread it, but I don't understand both raising players salaries each year AND raising the salary cap. Raising the salary cap seems to eliminate the whole cost-benefit aspect of keeping a high salary player, no?
Wrec86 Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We won't raise it as fast. It will go from 18 to 20 or 22. Just like real life. Year two you will be able to keep less than year one, and same for year 3, unless you go through a re-build and drop a lot of players.

We will only draft 25 players per team. You can't draft to the "n/a" spots, but will have to move them there after the draft, then pick up free agents.

With 350 picks, if we moved out the pick clock to a full minute, the draft will take a really long time. If everybody is for it, then we can, but I was trying to cut an hour off the draft time.

WrecAg, I don't know if you saw this or not, but I was wondering if the league would be cool with draft pick trading?

Sounds good comish! Lets do this thing. Draft party at your house? I'll bring blow.
Wrec86 Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, draft pick trading is allowed.

Also, I will try to get the draft order determined tomorrow so that you can work on a strategy.

Either I will have Yahoo randomize it, or I'll draw it from a hat and find a way to have it either taped on video or in front of someone else in the league.

Everything sounds good to me. I've never done a keeper fantasy so I'm excited to see how it turns out. I'm sure the first year will have some kinks, but it'll iron out soon.

Quick question... So if you keep a minor league prospect multiple years, he too will cost more and more to own? Is that defeating the purpose of having young prospects that you carry over?
Broncos

It's definitely going to be interesting with 14 teams! Good luck everyone. Excited to get strategizing once the order is released.

Agree with this. I don't think prospects should increase in value if they aren't moved up after a certain point of the season. Say the trade deadline or something. It will make drafting prospects more of a priority if you think they'll pay off big next season.

I second the draft time. 45 seconds is entirely too fast for a league this size. In a normal/non-dynasty 12 team league you feel rushed once you hit the mid rounds with a 1 1/2 min pick time.

If we are committed and drafting for the next few years I think we should get at least 1 1/2. We all need to understand that it's not necessary to take the entire time each pick but once it gets later you're going to be taking guys just to take them at 45 seconds.

Also, if you're wanting an easy way for managers to pay look in to leaguesafe.com. I've used it for another fantasy baseball league and it's more convenient than paying in check or mailing payment.

Just a suggestion.

One more thing, you were talking about randomize G the order... I've used http://www.fantasypros.com/mlb/draft-order-generator.php and it works well. You can get a quick video of the teams entered and hitting submit while the results pop up if it's easier that way.

Any chance we could push the draft back an hour to 3pm? I may not be back home from a morning activity by 2. I thought it was at 4pm but I guess that was the wrong time zone.

Is there a Yahoo app that I can draft with?
Moxie

Yeah, Yahoo has an app. It's actually not bad to use. I'll most likely be using the app as well since I'll be out of town.

I had someone ask me to move it forward to 2pm... (it was at either 3 or 4)

- Unless there is a bunch of people that can't make that work, I want to leave it where it is. I don't want to be an ass, but there's not a single time that works for everyone, so we all kind of have to adjust.

-We are good to draft this weekend. All the rules are ironed out, and waiting a week won't really change anything. Only thing I need to clean up is that we are doing daily lineups with a transaction limit of 3 moves per week. If I see anyone abusing the system, I can take action to remedy.

- I'll move the draft timer to one minute per pick, but don't want it any higher than that.

I know we won't all take the full time, but, if we did :
45 second pick time = 4 hours, 22 minutes
60 second pick time = 5 hour, 50 minutes
90 second pick time = 8 hours, 45 minutes

- Trades can be vetoed only by me, and the only time I will ever veto a trade is if someone mis-understood the terms of the deal. Some people will be trading for this year, and some for the future, so I'm not the judge if someone is getting ripped off. Basically, I won't veto anything unless one of the two parties wants to because of a misunderstanding.

Everything else should be decided at this point. I will send out a way to pay, and find the traveling trophy. If you guys see anything, let me know. I want there to be a place for us to put winner's names on the trophy year after year, but other than that, am fairly open.

If it is within the rules then I don't think it is abuse. Everyone would be playing by the same rules. If it is not how you like then I think the change would be for 2017.
