Somebody has to protect the Blue Jays, I guess. They weren't very good at protecting themselves.

Very interesting that Bautista got less than Odor. I was assured that he was the one at fault. Weird.

I don't think anyone ever claimed Bautista would get a stiffer punishment than Odor. Everyone knew a right cross in the jaw was going to get more than a dirty slide.

You point to where anyone said he was going to get more than Odor. You won't find it.

Bautista got his punishment in front of America. My guess is that he'd gladly take 8 games instead of an embarrassing ass-whipping where he got posterized.

He's going to be seeing that replay, autographed pictures of the still shot, etc. for a long, long time.

But the bat flip and the slide and the bawled up fist and whatnot.... What happened?

Hey, he's just finally learning the definition of "sucker punch" and that it doesn't remotely apply in this situation. Let's not put too much on him at once.

After the appeal, expect it to drop to either 5 or 6. As mentioned above, this is probably the best stretch on the schedule to be suspended, and given his recent struggles at the plate, this probably comes at a great time. Relax. Clear his head. Then come back when the schedule picks up.

There is a lot of precedent for 8 games.

There's also a lot of precedent for an intentional beaning getting 5. So we'll see.

What about the bat flip? Of course he wasn't going to be punished by MLB for that. He should have for the dirty slide, but perhaps the best thing that happened to him was that quick right cross which kept him from throwing any punches himself.

I suspect Rougie's suspension gets knocked down to 5. But with the way they came out with no rhyme or reason makes me hesitant to expect it.

When getting punched ends up becoming a t-shirt, I think you are right.

I'm just glad the Rangers could deliver something for the stros fans to discuss. Playing out the string by mid-May is brutal.

I think Nuke is just happy that Odor may not be able to continue his ownership of the Last Place Houston Astros this weekend.

I was assured on this board that it was a "fight"

Weird that in said "fight" that one person got suspended 8x more than the other. Guess Odor wasn't in the right after all.

Oh it was a fight. Just a really quick, really painful one for that one guy in blue.

Uh, it was a fight. That doesn't mean anyone believed Odor wouldn't get a harsher punishment. You are arguing points never made. Everyone knew Odor would receive the stiffest punishment. He's also, per Buster Olney, a "legend" among the MLB players now because of what he did.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I think Odor was wrong for what he did. I have stated that on the other thread that ended up getting deleted. I don't condone any of the violence involved. My bigger issues have been w/ people claiming it was a "sucker punch". But I've certainly not condoned what happened. It's a game and fighting over a game is stupid.

Now, my human nature, love for the Rangers, and hate of the Toronto Blue Jays do challenge me on this.

Neither one was in the right.

A punch is entirely outside the realm of a game, unlike a slide, though, and I would agree Odor's punishment is appropriately longer because it was completely and utterly outside anything "baseball."

I don't think there has ever been a bigger story for Houston sports except maybe Jordan's announcement that he was playing baseball for Birmingham....

I don't think knowingly committing an illegal slide with malicious intent is inside the realm of the game.

Seriously. I'm wondering if there was a memo sent to all teams reminding them that any bench-clearings are supposed to involve pattycake.

Or we could go with the code and discuss player's taking out their aggression on the player that "wronged" them. Why go after the ex-con that hit you with the pitch and was only about 40 feet away at the time when you can just make a cheap slide against the guy playing 2nd?

Sliding is a part of the game. Punching in no form.

They have rules to regulate slides and process for punishing it. Odor took justice into his own hands and every league is going to frown upon that with a heavy hand.

I get what you're says but yeah, it is. Malicious intent aside, the slide by definition makes it part of the "realm of the game".

And provided these hold to be true Nuke I assume that you're going to go ahead and agree that, due to his lack of suspension, Bush clearly did not throw at Bautista intentionally making it in fact Bautista who started the whole thing with his admitted dirty slide.
