I was assured on this board that it was a "fight"

Weird that in said "fight" that one person got suspended 8x more than the other. Guess Odor wasn't in the right after all.

Neither one was in the right.

A punch is entirely outside the realm of a game, unlike a slide, though, and I would agree Odor's punishment is appropriately longer because it was completely and utterly outside anything "baseball."

I don't think knowingly committing an illegal slide with malicious intent is inside the realm of the game.
That slight cannot be described as malicious compared to some of the things that Odor has done. Doesn't make it right, but damn. Hasn't Odor hurt people already during slides? I know he's gone in way to hard against the Astros a couple times(inb4someonemakesajokeabouthimdestoryingtheastros).

I'd assume he will be on a very tight leash.

Profar hitting .350 with a HR, has a hit in every game, and 3 out of the 5 games were multi-hit.

But Astro fans assured us that the Rangers would go on a slide in the standings while we had to put some scrub at 2nd.

He hurt an Angels player to some extent on an unnecessary slide. I wouldn't say the intent was anything beyond trying to break up a play, but he acknowledged it wasn't a good slide and apologized during the game. The hardest slide he's had against the Astros was against Altuve and as I recall he had no issue with it. As for whether or not he gets to complain, there was a hard slide into second that could have easily been called illegal earlier in that same Blue Jays game. He had no issue with it at all and it may have been harder than the Bautista slide. The issue with Bautista was intent plain and simple.

As for hard slides....

Rasmus is okay now since playing for AJ Hinch seems to drain the testosterone out of their players.

I thought the slide earlier in the game WAS called illegal after Banny asked for a review. And Odor left it alone.

The Angels one was totally illegal at the time.

And most of them probably were under the actual rules and not what players were getting away with.

But either way, do you think those kinds of slides were recently made clearly illegal?

Everyone knows how Odor plays. Just embrace the "passion" and stop acting like he's the victim.

You know what else is different? Odor doesn't jump to his feet immediately, bow up and act like a tough guy. That just escalated it. If bautista just got up, dusted himself off and jogged to his dugout, good chance nothing happens.
That's not the kind of player he is though.

Exactly. Yeah, Odor may play dirty, but that's irrelevant in this instance. In this instance, Bautista was the dirty player, and he jumped up looking to fight. And his comment that Odor was looking for a fight, while true, is very disingenuous and only tells part of the story.

I've never acted like he's a "victim". But if you can't understand why he punched Joey Bats in the face in this situation and walked away when other players slid in hard, I don't know what else to say.

Bautista saying "yeah, I slid hard and late on purpose because what else do you want me to do, just take it?" shows who the real beetch here was. Oh I don't know Joey, maybe charge the mound and take the issue up with the pitcher who actually hit you?

Final tally on Odor's replacement:
- .364 and 2 HR's
- hit in all 7 games
- 5 multi-hit games
- 5 wins

Talk about getting your money's worth with the shot on Bautista. It turned into a great opportunity to see what Profar can do.

Only because Profar is lucky and sequenced all of 2016s hits and HRs into 7 games.
