There are already players in MLB saying the wish they had been kneeling. I don't think any sport is going to be untouched by that.

Manfred/owners called the players bluff. They told them when (Spring training June 27th) and where (home ballparks) and the players rejected it. I'd guess we are getting 65 games full prorated starting July 20th.

I don't think they called their bluff, they just finally decided to actually get the ball rolling in order to avoid a grievance. We'll get closer to 70 games than 50 which is what the players wanted.

My guess is a big part of it is some sort of BS idea of victory by having the owners accept their proposal instead of the other way around.

MLB had a chance to be the first team sport to resume, but they blew it because the owners and the players' union remain deadlocked in a standoff over how to appropriately divide billions of dollars in a pandemic-shortened season. If an agreement can't be reached, MLB will likely move to an unappealing option for both sides: imposing a short season of as few as 48 games without the players' consent, something the league has the right to do under the March deal. With that arrangement, players would get their full prorated salaries.

Baseball players already spend most of their time kneeling, or standing, or sitting on their butts.

so it's been exactly one month since this thread was started.

It's just comical at this point. 48 hours ago all the headlines were about how Manfred and Clark had this amazing face-to-face meeting and they were so close to a deal, then the union makes an offer based on the terms outlined in that meeting and Manfred immediately rejects it. No one but themselves to blame.

I also feel like the analysts and baseball writers are a little trigger happy when it comes to publishing a story about the meetings. Or they are only getting their sources from one side of the argument

yep, 3 days ago all the baseball media was excited about Manfred and Clark's face-to-face meeting in Arizona.

but now 72 hours later...nothing

I read where Manfred said no doubleheaders. So with a hard end date of September 27th...a 70-game schedule is just about out of the question.

That would align with what Manfred said a few days ago which was during the meeting he made it 100% crystal clear that 70 games was an absolute non-starter, Clark understood that, and the shorter schedule wasn't going to stop a deal. Then the union comes back with a counter that Clark had to know wouldn't fly. Screams Boras interference

A 40-50 game season isn't worth it. Move on to 2021
