A 40-50 game season isn't worth it. Move on to 2021
i don't understand this argument. why is a short season 'not worth it' or a 'farce' ? please help me understand

from my point of view, i see college baseball teams play 50ish games and its considered legitimate.

Because a MLB season should be more than a college baseball season. History, if this season is played, will look at this as something of an outlier. No fans likely in the stands. Everything will be statistically skewed for short term rather than long term. I love baseball but I dont see it happening with everything going on

Personally, I'd rather an exhibition season over no season.

A 2013 championship game between San Diego state and USF was on last night on EspnU on the bar tv, which reminded me how much I miss having the game on, ANY game, even in the background. I don't care if it technically doesn't count, or isn't taken seriously in the long run. Just give us something...

We have the Collegiate League in Texas starting up, maybe that will get some TV viewership at least locally if not fans in the stands

While I loved the MLB game I would much rather watch a game live at the minor league level for various reasons This season hurts worse because the 5-10 games i go to in MiLB each summer while in Texas or on a road trip are the things I will miss the most

This I 100% agree with. MLB is not the most watchable baseball. The best baseball on TV at least is college baseball. During the year FSSW puts a Frisco game on every weekend and I always record and watch it too. Soem of the KBO league has been good as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love MLB, but I would rather go to Round Rock or College Station.

Cant disagree with that. From my perspective, though, there's something comforting and "normal" about having the giants announcers, Kruk and Kuip, talking in the background, even if I'm not actively watching. And right now, if nothing else, it would help distract from the chaos and negativity surrounding literally every other aspect of daily life. Plus, they don't scream political bull**** like I expect to get from other sports whenever they start up. It's all about the game. They're purists and wouldn't let all the outside disgustingness work its way into their presentation of their broadcasts. Having their goofy banter for a few hours would be daily therapy in the depressing day to day nonsense that has infiltrated everyday life.

It's not just about the game itself, which I agree with you that the college game can be more entertaining (especially compared to the horrible product the giants have been throwing out there). For me, it's a temporary return to better times.

apparently due to the COVID, the union is going to wait 1 or 2 days before voting on the 60-game schedule

They now realize that in two days we aren't going to know anything more than we know now. So they're voting today

I'll have a lot of respect for the union if they vote in favor of this. And they very well may - keep in mind the average MLB of $5 MM will thus be $1.85 MM this season. That sounds like a lot to us until you realize much more than half make less and the average career length is 5 years. You never get that year back.

Exactly. I'd love to see the faces on the players' faces once they're told that because they pushed to the point of having no season at all that they aren't being paid anything at all.

They are jeopardizing $1.9mm in an attempt to earn $2.1mm.

I'll admit I would gig pretty good if Cole ended up getting zero dollars this season. Same for all of the other Boras players.

It would be almost worth it. Almost.

If KBO would broadcast 5 games a night it would be.

F these clowns. That is ridiculous. They are tanking a potential deal over 10 games that they aren't realistically going to have time to play anyway. If I'm the owners, I set a 48 game season date and let them file their grievance which the players will lose.

That is a bunch of disingenuous bull***** These guys are operating in bad faith, and i hope whatever they do file ends up biting them in the ass when it comes to negotiating the next labor deal.

At this point, who knows when they play in 2020, but with each day this drags out, the more confident I become that we're not going to see baseball in 2022. Or at least for a very large part of it

Screw the players. The proposal was reasonable and they reject it over 10 games? Screw them. I hope MLB breaks it off in them in the labor negotiations coming up.

It takes a pretty severe case of cognitive dissonance to reject a 60 game full pro-ration offer and then write that letter.

This sucks. They decided they'd rather just play the 48 or 50 or whatever it ends up being and keep the rights to file a grievance. It makes sense in that light but it's really ****in frustrating when the fans just want to watch baseball.
BCSWguru

If I'm the owners, I say screw it and just not play. Start all over.

Owners offered to pay players what they wanted. How is that you think owners don't want to pay?
