I mistakenly thought that Ron Gant played a year in SF. He did not. Then while I still had him on the brain I thought, "Oh, well he hit 30 HR w Cincy". He did not. He hit 29 with them (sandwiched between 30 HR seasons in ATL and StL). Need to brush up on my Gant history before playing him again.

How did I not even think of Bregman?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I certainly considered and then dismissed several other Astros that could have fit that part of the grid.

The best kind, where I can just think of my childhood baseball cards plus a couple of recent guys to fill it out.

Chipper Jones, Pat Listach, Alfonso Soriano

Back in the '98 season when McGwire broke the record, me and some friends went to see him hit BP before an Astros/Cards game one weekend. Gant was with the Cards and taking BP ahead of McGwire. He had several warning track fly balls, and one of my friends, a rather portly fellow at the time, started yelling **** at him when he came to the OF to shag flies. About 2 minutes into that, he got tapped on the shoulder and asked, you got a problem with Ronnie Gant, big boy? About 9 members of his family were sitting directly behind us.
Feels so good, feelin' good again.

Haha - I imagine Ron Gant's family were not small people!

Reminds me of a story. In college there were 5 of us who did monster road trips in two summers to cram in as many ballparks as we could. We're talking like 12 parks in 14 days type pace each year. We were in Cincinnati in 2001 and they were hosting the Astros. We went in as soon as the gates open and there are the 5 of us and one random little kid standing above the Astros dugout down the 3B line. I don't remember exactly what happened but somehow we felt like Charlie Hays had big timed the little kid - it was damn near just us and kid in the stadium - and my best friend started giving him hell about it and it devolved into a "Maybe that's why Chris Truby is starting at 3B over you". Charlie Hays may have ignored the kid but he didn't ignore us - he stopped taking infield specifically to come over to mouth back to us and to start signaling to the security officer.

We all backed down because we did not want to booted (which actually did happen a few nights prior in Detroit). But Griffey Jr was already hurt and not playing so it probably would have been a better story.

The only two things I remember from the game was that Roy Oswalt got his first career W (out of the pen) and Neon Deion PR late in the game.

Pulling up the box score now, even without Junior, we saw 3 HOFers + (possible) Billy Wagner.....and I just remembered that one of the guys with us was from China Springs (outside Waco) had played with Donnie Sadler as a kid - and Sadler was playing for the Reds that night

Sadler is a great grid play. Also single handedly won games for Bosque County all star teams back in the day.

Also, I ran into Charlie Hayes in an airport bathroom one time. Fun times.

9/9, rarity 34

Rogers Hornsby (HOF-0.5%), Royce Clayton, Mel Ott
Al Simmons (HOF-0.1%), Ron Villone (0.7%), Frank Robinson
Johnny Logan (0.8%), Willy Adames, Ryne Sandberg (HOF-0.6%)

This would have been a pretty good Grid if I had put Royce Clayton at SS for the Brewers instead of Adames.

Actually I don't mind that too much. I know how the grid works that I could have used him there but it is not how my mind works in that Pittsburgh did not draft him.

Looks like Galarraga was the TexAgs choice as Born Outside of Country (and he is at 12%). Isn't Larry Walker Canadian? I'd be curious what his % in that spot is. I guess you could use them both interchangeably in those two spots.

My rarity score has dropped since this morning to 82. If I played the exact grid except swapping the positions of the two players you mentioned it would have been 62.

Percentage how I originally played them
Walker 32 % , Galarraga 11%

In swapped positions
Galarraga 17%, Walker 7%
