To get a break from the Bregman talk:

Daily Walkoff - A daily MLB trivia game

I got a HR today on Astros trivia.

I don't know if I hate you or love you for introducing this game to the board.
Playing the Astros everyday is fun, but it's really hard not to want to play other teams.

Only managed a double today for the Astros. I mocked Vinny Castilla a few days ago and he showed up on here today.

I try to forget about the 2013 season too

I did like the fact that you could get a ticket to the ballpark for $5 and walk all the way down to the seats by the dugout and never get questioned or asked to move, though

Finish the offseason:
  • Sign Polanco ($6 M)
  • Sign BP arm ($4 M) - Stanek?
  • Trade Caratini (-$6 M)

That puts us at 240 M. That leaves us a couple hundred grand under.

Potential Lineups:

Vs LHP
Altuve 2B
Alvarez DH
Paredes 3B
Walker 1B
Diaz C
Pena SS
Polanco / Dezenzo LF
McCormick RF
Meyers CF

Vs RHP
Altuve 2B
Alvarez DH
Paredes 3B
Walker 1B
Diaz C
Polanco LF
Trammell RF
Pena SS
Meyers CF

Bench: Dubon, Salazaar

This means no more Singleton.

Rotation:
Framber
Brown
Blanco
Arrighetti
Wesneski

High Leverage:
Hader
Abreu

Med Leverage:
Scott
New BP Arm
Ort

Low Leverage:
King
Montero
Whitley
---cut line---
Dubin

Garcia and McCullers are expected back in April. I could see Lance forcing Wesneski or Arrighetti to the BP while Garcia becomes long relief, maybe even potentially a med/high leverage arm if he transitions to the BP.

Is Soursa expected back?

I wouldn't hate it if someone like Blubaugh or Ullola forced their way onto the big league club to start the year.

---

What do we think about this roster? Is it enough to win the division? Get a buy? Make WS? Win it all? Biggest concerns?

Long tweet, but it mentions Blue Jays are the only other team with a 6 year offer, and then describes how much of a wreck they are. It's likely Boras's ego that's holding up a deal rather than Alex.
Quote:

The only thing holding up a deal here is Boras' ego not wanting to have to eat the crow of going back to a deal he previously rejected because he thought there would be a better one

What's really crazy to me is it's like we threw him a lifeline by trading Pressly, making some room, and putting our offer back in play. Still rejected it thinking better is out there....

The rejection he's referring to is the rejection that happened early in the offseason, not a recent rejection.

That reads like a typical Boras ploy of getting a team to bid against itself.

Pressly was being traded regardless. It had nothing to do with Bregman

I get that. And don't think I said it was because of Bregman. If I did, not what I meant at all. But regardless it gave him a second chance with us. Which isn't common.

Do we know if the Astros offer was rejected by Bregman/Boras or was it just pushed to the side and not accepted?

you don't hit golf balls off the field. You hit from locations in the stands.

Not accepted/pushed to the side = rejected

I wonder if this is going to leave a sticky point with all of his other clients that are on the Astros. Do agents get paid yearly or when the contract is signed?

how do partial season ticket plans work? they sent an email saying they were available for purchase now, but, looks like only about 10 seats available to choose from? are you supposed to email them for more options?

The more important question is whether it is still valid or have we backed off on length given that we went out and got a new 3B?

no, it's just part of the business. teams know how he is and they just have to deal with him

depends, some monthly, some off the contract up front. It depends per the person they are representing

cheap access to games was great. i remember signing some petition about rsn's in the 2011-2013 era for the astros, and then the astros gave me a pair of lower bowl tickets every month for a couple years.

I vaguely remember a story about how Boras was Maldy's agent after 2018. Allegedly, he wanted to go back to Houston, and Boras hid houstons offer from him and he ended up on a one year deal with KC. I think Martin fired him after that.

Gotcha. Didn't realize that.

I don't think that is completely accurate, at least according to the Spotrac site. But, it may depend on how you define dirt cheap. His WAR last year was 0.8, but he averaged 2.4 the past half decade. Isn't the rule of thumb around $8-$10 million per WAR? Not sure how a one-year "prove it" contract affects that, or the current OF free agent situation, but I doubt you get him for nothing.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I thought I saw them reply to an Astros group somewhere the lowest rate was like $75 but I have no idea what that would include.

Seattle declined to pick up the 12 M option.

I expect him in this range.
