Makes sense and is further proof that the Astros aren't waiting on Bregman.

And that should say a lot to Bregman about how much he's wanted. This is a business and he's just not worth what he thinks or wants.

This is another of the options facing teams: 1. Go it alone, embracing streaming and possibly put your games on over the air stations throughout your territory while largely relying on ad sales to generate revenue, 2. have mlb produce your games and leverage their network deals to try to keep some cable/satellite revenue, 3. partner with the other teams in your market and take over the RSN (eg. Rockets/Astros) while clinging to the old dying model. None will come close to generating the same revenue as the model circa 2012 (peak cable and satellite distribution in the US). Get ready for the Wild West.

I thought I heard the pick goes to later in the draft if the team is over the tax.

I actually think a Texas streaming service with no blackouts for all Texas teams outside of the NFL would do pretty well. Would have to convince NHL and NBA, but I think it could work. It's won't make the same money as the cable deals, but it allows for a lot more advertising opportunities as well as different demographics under one service.
