I cant argue with being spoiled by stacked rosters.

Garcia underwent a Tommy John surgery in May 2023 and was initially expected to be back in action near the end of last season. He started a minor league rehab assignment last June and was seemingly on the path to making that timeline, yet some lingering soreness between outings led to a pair of shutdowns, and the Astros ultimately announced last August that Garcia wouldn't pitch in 2024.
Garcia shed some more light on his situation when speaking with Rome today, saying that some tightness in his throwing elbow in September led to a six-week shutdown for evaluation. Fortunately, Garcia emerged from that latest setback without any serious injury, and now says he is feeling good as Spring Training approaches.
They've actually spoken with a couple vets recently. No big names, but kinda fits the description of what you described.GhostWipe15 said:
I guess I would just feel a little more comfortable if we added one more whos done it before over multiple years... along with those young guys. Im not talking about an Ace... just a solid pitcher. I guess im being hard to please with that. Especially since we did bring in Wesneski.
there is no way that anyone in the org thinks Lance needs to be coming back to be a starter, do they?Farmer1906 said:
Lance posted another BP session this morning. Sinkers and at least one slider are shown in the brief story.

So who is the starting rotation to start the year...
1. Framber
2. Brown
3. Blanco
4. Arrighetti
Is our 5th guy Wesneski?
We are all talking about the outfield and Bregman... Our rotation seems problematic.
Another dude who better have a bounce back year......texasaggie2015 said:
I think there's three different directions this thing could go. I expect at least one more move to be made, but obviously nothing is ever guaranteed.
Option 1: Bregman comes home. Paredes plays second and Altuve sees the majority of his time in LF.
Option 2: Arenado comes to Houston. Montero is a part of the package and comes off the books. Paredes plays second and Altuve sees the majority of his time in LF.
Option 3: Astros trade a young arm for an upgrade in the OF. Altuve sticks at second (with plenty of time at DH) and Paredes plays 3B. They acquire a cheap vet to fill the hole in the rotation.
I know they've inquired about Donovan from STL. This is complete speculation on my part but I could see a world where say, Arrighetti, gets shipped to the Cards and Donovan comes to Houston to play second base moving Altuve to left field.
I also know they haven't given up on the Luis Robert pipe dream. Dana Brown loves that guy.

Getting him out of Chicago will do wonders for him
Hes only got 3 more years of control and we are in no position to be giving up a haul. We do have some guys towards the top that need to get looks this year specifically the college guys weve taken early the last few years.....EastCoastAgNc said:texasaggie2015 said:

I think I read they want a teams top 2 prospects to get him. For us that would probably require more than 2 prospects. This was in contact if the reds trying to get him
We would likely have to slap a prospect or two on top of that if we want them to absorb that salarytylhair said:
Arrighetti + Montero for Donovan + Fedde would fix a lot of the 2025 roster construction issues and free up cash, at the expense of Arrighetti's future controllable years.

Its time the #Astros shut the door on Alex Bregman, and take that $156M and put it towards re-signing Framber Valdez, who is NOT in decline, has been the winningest pitcher in the league the last 5 years and has been incredibly durable. #AREA45 @Sportsradio610 @shaunbijani

Probably in the minority here, but I wouldn't be in favor of a huge contract for Framber. Get him at a "discount"? Maybe, but I don't see alot of players doing that these days.
Not really sure but I don't think so.Marvin said:Wabs said:

I don't think Boras is his agent... right?
