11 days until Cubs-Dodgers open in Japan. Brilliant move by MLB - their 2 game series both start at 3 AM in California, 5 AM in Chicago. Shohei returning to a park where he once hit a home run through a seam in the roof of the dome.
I'm so excited for baseball to be back. This stretch after the Super Bowl where I try to follow the NBA and pretend to care about college basketball is always such a drag.

The Astros utilized the pitch clock for Lance McCullers Jr.s' live BP today to get him used to the tempo. McCullers hasn't pitched since the pitch clock came into the game.

Jake's now hitting .333 with a .908 OPS, proving that ST stats are meaningless, since you can quickly turn around an 0-fer into a nice stat line.

Usually I kind see a certain trait the Astros lock in on and try to expand or adjust to make them weapons. I don't really see much here. Stuff isn't special. Velo isn't special. He doesn't have that one remarkable pitch. Not even a ton of pitchability.

He had such pinpoint control, understanding of hitters mentality and the value of changing speeds I think he would have adjusted.

When you get a reputation for having pinpoint control, eventually you start to get the benefit of the doubt from the ump more often. Just like Maldonado went from having a reputation for framing bad pitches as strikes to being among the worst in the league at it by the end of his career. Innings limit so you can trade him?
Taking my son (12) to spring training this week. Any tips on how he can get autographs, pictures, etc? Should he take a bunch of baseballs, or will it be easy (and cheap?) to get them there? Any other tips on watching practice? We have tickets to games on Friday and Saturday of next week - Astros game on Friday night, Spring Breakout game on Friday afternoon, Astros game on Saturday afternoon, and Mets-Nationals game on Saturday night.
