Brutal. So $47MM for 2 total years and they got117 IP, a whip of 1.65, an ERA+ of 65 (ERA was 6.23). Thats the pitching version of Rendon.

Don't forget the owner publicly saying how much he referred signing him despite the fact he has another year under contract

Or Javier or McCullers. Ideal scenario is to load your farm with arms so you don't have to pay starters on multi year deals. Letting Framber walk is the fiscally sound thing, we just unfortunately don't have the farm right now to backfill.

Moniak is cheap and left handed. Dana better be warming up the phone lines

Not as bad as what we paid JV in 20-21.

Big Difference...JV won a CY in 2019

I guess but Monty won title. Both were free agents. Both either sucked or got hurt or both on the next 2 year deal

It's interesting they were saying Walker should be ready to go for Opening Day but hasn't played yet....

Makes me wonder if that initial 6 week timeline was accurate. Hmm

He's not in Houston. He played 6 inning with 3 ABs in West Palm. He's playing again today then flying to Houston. Espada said he "should be good" yesterday.

I wonder if it was off McCullers. The only news we got about him was that he threw 1.2 innings and 33 pitches.

Prolly Montero, he's a great BP pitcher….

So in terms of the roster, we have three spots left with Cam Smith, Zach Dezenzo, Zack Short, Brendan Rodgers, and Cooper Hummel in contention for them.

Cam seems locked into one. Rodgers started yesterday and seems to be a go. So it's Dezenzo, Short, and Hummel for the last spot. I think Dezenzo goes to Sugarland unless Walker for some reason isn't ready. I just don't see the ABs for him right now. So it's Hummel or Short. I like the fact that Hummel switch hits, but is Dubon playing short if Pena rests? How does this shake out?

Thinking about McCullers

Pitchers max out at 30 days on rehab assignments. McCullers went from 13 pitches to 33. If he can add 10-20 per start with a 6 day rest between starts his timeline looks like this.

Mar 30 (in SL): 40-55 pitches
April 5 (AA & AAA on the road): 50-65 pitches
April 11 (in SL): 60-75 pitches
April 17 (AA & AAA on the road): 70-85 pitches or April 18 vs Padres @ Home.
April 23 vs Blue Jays @ Home

Technically, he could make a minor league start on the 23rd, but he would have to be back on the roster by the 29th (no 6th rehab game without shortening to a 5 day rest vs 6)

Loperfido and Bloss didn't make the Opening Day Blue Jays roster.

Short may be a good fielder but is an offensive liability. I'd go with Zach or Hummel to start the season on the opening day roster.

This buys out arb and extends him @ ~3/69 M.

Cal is 2 years older, 1 year further long in his career, and significantly better defensively (calling the game).

Would you give Yainer the following?
2025: 1 M (pre arb)
2026: 4 M (arb1)
2027: 8 M (arb2)
2028: 12 M (arb3)
2029: 20 M
2030: 20 M

6/65 M and we get Yainer for 2 extra seasons at age 30 and 31?

Cam Smith would be such an awesome piece. Idk if we Dana can get him in the deal or not but if he can. Oh baby.
Everyone remember, I was on the Cam Smith hype train before he was an Astro.

Noted hater, Ketch, wants to ride buses in the minors.

Cams gonna start. Zack will probably be first off the bench.
